Welcome.

You don't remember how you got here.

It may be one of the first things to occur to you when you wake up, that you don't know when you got here, what you were doing involved nothing like this; granted, it's also possible that it doesn't matter – that whatever circumstances you last remember have nothing on the fact that this bed is really comfortable and the room around you is gently-lit.

It's warm, but it's nowhere near where you're supposed to be.

Whatever you think of it, the fact is that you can't stay there forever; there's a silver key resting on that trunk near your bed, and you might want to take it on the way out. It's no big deal if you don't, exactly – it won't lock automatically after you close the door, that has to be done manually – but it'll probably become clear that privacy is a commodity in a place like this.

After all, you aren't alone; the hallway is likely quick to become populated with other people that are just as confused as you are. Go ahead and talk to them if you'd like; none of you will know exactly how you got to the building with the wooden walls and the odd windows that no one can see through, but that doesn't mean you can't get to know each other on the way to...wherever it is that you're going.

Wander long enough and you may hear the chiming of a clock nearby.

It's hard to tell whether it's telling you it's very early or very late at night, but checking out the room it's in eventually might be a good idea regardless; it's large and open, designed to accommodate social gatherings from the look of it, with the clock in question mounted against the western wall. It isn't the only thing here, though – there's a large frame set into the wall nearby, and it contains some information that might be relevant to your interests...

Or perhaps your attention is drawn instead to the other framed information nearby; don't worry if you miss it in here, though. It's posted in every other room in the building.

There's also the matter of the large double-doors at the end of the room; they aren't going to open, regardless of what you do.

Looks like you're trapped here for the time being. Might as well see who's here with you, right?

[ Seeing Katniss so close to shaking, she can only imagine how terrified she must look right now. Even so, she doesn't have much of a choice right now other than waiting this out and trying to get more information from her end; maybe once she finds out more, she can figure out a way to contact Tsugumi, she'll know what to do...

But, first things first... ]

Don't tell me you're actually taking this nonsense at face value. It sounds like something out of a dumb teen novel...none of this makes any sense, otherwise. I mean, it's not like there's a point to making random strangers try to kill each other, and if this guy really wanted us dead, he could have done it himself when he brought us here, right?

I'm just worried some sicko is gonna think this is real and come after someone because of this crap...

[ Pointing to the rules on the wall. Seriously, encouraging people to beat each other up is not what they need right now... ]

...But assuming everyone here is, you know, rational and level-headed, maybe we can come up with something of our own without anyone going off the rails.

[ That's asking a lot, Chitoge... ]
flagitate: (♪ buttercup.)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, Chitoge, bless your heart. ]

"No point." There doesn't have to be a point. Someone thought this would be fun, or some way to punish us for some stupid reason.

Killing us when we come here won't make any sort of impact on us. Can't draw it out if everyone's dead right off the bat.
gorira: (pic#10017676)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You have something you need to be punished for? Sounds like you're projecting a bit.

[ ...It occurs to her that the statement was probably rude. She doesn't care much and keeps going. ]

If that's the case, all we have to do is not kill each other. If it's just a matter of staying here, it's hardly worth someone trying to take an innocent person's life. It's not that bad; if he wanted to torture us, he could have put us somewhere way more dark.

[ Dislikes: dark places ]
flagitate: (stump shooting)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like you're assuming a lot about someone you don't know.

[ Who's being rude, not them. That strikes a chord with Katniss, though. ]

People get desperate. When they get desperate, they'll do anything.
gorira: (pic#10017656)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm just trying to think about this rationally. ...Even if the person doing this is, without a doubt, really irrational.

I guess if we're stuck here for long enough, someone might get a little stir-crazy, but, if that's the case, it's still 29 against 1, right? We can keep an eye on everyone, can't we? If they're that desperate, they probably wouldn't be able to hide it very well...
flagitate: (twist bowstring)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There's no guarantee it'll be only one person. That's if no one's set on leaving this place. Or if they like killing.
gorira: (pic#9513501)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She almost dares to ask who in their right mind would like killing, but, we won't talk about "this thing of ours". ]

So you think we're gonna have a body on our hands at some point, then?
flagitate: (overspine)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I know we're going to have a body. It's just when.
gorira: (pic#10028142)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a pretty morbid way of looking at it.

[ And certainly not optimistic. This can't be that bad, right? That someone would resort to killing a stranger just to get out of here, assuming that even works? ]

...Then I guess your priority is making sure it isn't you. Can you defend yourself?
flagitate: (whet)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ At that, Katniss manages to crack a slight grin. ]

Yeah. Traps, snares, bow and arrows. Knives, sometimes.
gorira: (pic#10017679)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're a hunter, then?

[ Now that she mentions it, she can picture it. This girl doesn't look weak; far from it, though she does look a bit on the thin side. Not necessarily athletically thin either, but... ]

Dad goes sometimes, but, certainly not so hardcore that he'll use a bow and arrow...

Twelve doesn't exactly have unlimited food. Or much food at all. If you want to eat, you have to take matters into your own hands.
gorira: (pic#10028098)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Twelve? Is that where you're from? I've never heard of a place like that...

[ Hm. What a strange name...but certainly, she can understand the situation. You don't hunt, you don't eat. That's what she's saying.

Sounds like a rough way of life. Maybe it's just because she comes from privilege, but, she can't imagine herself in that kind of a situation. ]
flagitate: (♪ transfer command.)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
District Twelve.

A lot of people haven't heard of it.

[ Nor have they heard of Panem, which is really weird. ]

Where are you from?
gorira: (pic#10017674)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of my life, I've spent in America. Though the past three years or so, I've been living in Japan, where I was born. Dad moved back there on business, though my Mom spends most of her time in Manhattan. She's kind of a big deal overseas...
flagitate: (fistmele)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... America? ]

You're-- from America. [ Is this some Twilight Zone bullshit. ] What's it like?
gorira: (pic#10025646)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ah, that gets her to perk up a bit! ]

Well, it's very different from Japan, I'll tell you that much! Manhattan is amazing, for sure! It's so full of life and energy. The streets are always filled to the brim with people from all different places, and the buildings are so tall that you can't even see the top of them sometimes unless you're far away! And the food! It's excellent, really! Even the stuff you get from the stands on the sidewalk! The trains are a little on the gross side sometimes, but, they're way more crowded in Japan...

Living in the city is a lot different from living in, like, a different part of America, though. I've never been down south or anything, but, New York is basically an experience all on its own.
flagitate: (face)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She listens, taking it all in. Every so often, she nods her head slightly, just to acknowledge that, yes, she's listening. ]

The history books said Panem used to be a place called America. I don't know much about it, but it sounds a lot better than Panem.
gorira: (pic#10017657)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh? Did...something happen to America, that it changed the name like that? I haven't heard anything about that...
flagitate: (pile)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Shit. Deflect, deflect. ]

Don't worry about it.

[ Smooth. ]
gorira: (pic#10017679)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, that certainly doesn't sound reassuring... ]

Well, if they really did change the name and divide it up into districts, I doubt New York would be anywhere near 12, unless you're way out from the city or upstate. You'd probably have a hard time doing much hunting near Manhattan, especially if you're after game so big that you'd need to use snares and traps...if you really are from a place that used to be America, more than likely, you're further west.
flagitate: (♪ snow's mansion.)

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The snares and traps are for rabbits, usually. They keep them out of the way of bigger predators, like dogs. Gale and I don't find a lot of big game. Just deer, usually.

[ ... ]

District Twelve's in a place that used to be called Appalachia.

Rabbit meat..

[ It's almost like the ends of her bright red ribbon droop at that. She can't even imagine eating something like that... ]

Appalachia...like the mountains, then? That kinda makes sense...that's a little to the southwest, from where New York City is. Or, was, I guess?

[ Too weird... ]

[personal profile] flagitate 2016-07-03 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
... I don't catch rabbits too often.

[ Katniss is good at comforting people, and it might be half a lie. ]

I guess. I don't know much about the area. Just that there are a lot of coal mines, but the miners have to dig really deep. And the forests--thick and wild.
gorira: (pic#9513518)

[personal profile] gorira 2016-07-03 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She gets it. You do what you have to do. ]

I haven't been out there myself, but, it sounds about right. A lot of the books I've read said that area hasn't been doing too well recently. Lots of people moving out and not too many moving in, so they don't have many people to tend to the fields. So that would explain why everything is so thick out there...
