Week 1

WEEK 1 Unfortunately (or fortunately, for those of you who decided he ranks at an 8 or higher) the Adjudicator has made an appearance and he doesn't seem to be lying about anything that's happening here. There's no way out. It seems like you're stuck here for the time being and the rules the Adjudicator told you about are still hanging in every room. While the Adjudicator himself is around, you'll be left up to your own devices – feel free to continue exploring and getting to know your fellow Competitors for the next several days. Should you want to eat something you're free to use the kitchen before 10PM, but after that the doors will be locked and no amount of fussing with the locks or trying to break them down will get them to budge. You'll notice that the clock in the foyer goes off periodically, however. This will happen every morning at 7AM and again in the evenings at 10PM. You'll be able to hear it no matter what room you're in; it seems it's being piped in over that PA system in the walls. There isn't any punishment for sleeping through it, but you don't want to waste the day in bed, now do you? (Unless you were out exploring all last night. In which case, go back to bed, damn.) [ It's probably the last place Aligula ever thought she'd find Katniss in, but, well, the important thing is that she's found her.

Why is it important? Because Aligula's a woman of her word! The parfait's going to get set down in front of her on the piano with a soft clink; it's in an appropriately tall glass that's not exactly a parfait glass, and she's even included a spoon! How thoughtful.

...Vanilla ice cream, delicately sliced strawberries, crumbled graham crackers, and a drizzle of honey, by the way. It's very simple, but very good. ]

It tastes best when it's not all sticky and melted, so eat up!

[ Thoughtful indeed. Katniss glances up at her, then takes the delicate glass in her hand. It's... wow. It's pretty. Katniss doesn't know what it would take to make this back in Twelve. Ice cream, she's guessing, would be impossible to come by. Maybe they could substitute cream made from goat's milk. Strawberries aren't a problem--she and Gale have a finely growing patch. Those brown crumbs... she isn't sure what they are, but they look like a cracker of some kind. If it's in a sweet dish, they'd need sugar, which is, also, impossible to find in Twelve, unless you're a baker. And honey. Katniss has never had honey before, but she knows it comes from bees. Not many of those around. Maybe in Eleven--but anything Eleven produces would go right to the Capitol. ]

It looks good. [ She takes the spoon in her hand and dips it in, making sure to get everything in one bite. It's nothing she's ever tasted before. Sweet, but not too sweet, and the strawberries add a nice fresh taste. ]

... I can see why you were upset I never had one of these.

[ She's quiet while Katniss overanalyzes her parfait, though she's definitely bouncing on her feet, and Aligula grins when she gives her opinion. ]

Riiiight? But now you have! And you can even make one for your sister when you see her again! [ ... ] If you have the ingredients. Thouuugh, you can make parfaits with pretty much anything, as long as you have ice cream. Or yogurt!

[flagitate]

[ She's definitely taking another bite. It's good, so excuse her while she's quiet for a little while. ]

Prim would love something like this. [ ... ] You can put whatever you want in it. Right?

That's what I said! [ That's why parfaits are the objective best. ] I mean, I really don't know how something like lamb would go with it, but the world is your oyster when it comes to cooking!

[ ...She might've heard from Cilan earlier about Katniss asking about lamb stew. ]

[ ... That's a weird-- oh. Right. ]

But fruit and stuff. Anything goes?

Pretty much, yep! And you can do other flavors of ice cream and stuff too, but vanilla is totally the best for stuff like this. Although I've always wanted to try one with double chunky chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream before...

[ Which is the best ice cream, by the way. ]

[ She'll probably just stick to vanilla, honestly. Katniss isn't sure if Prim would be able to handle so many different flavors all at once, considering their diet... ]

Wait. [ ??? ] Cookie dough? The unbaked stuff?

Yeah! It tastes super great. [ Hmhmm~ ] I thiiiiink the kind of dough they use for ice cream is different than the stuff you use for baking, but I dunno! But like, it's the best ice cream flavor ever.

[ Aligula, what are you talking about. Vanilla is goddamn delicious. ]

Ab-so-lute-ly! I don't think we have any here though. [ Which is too bad. ] If we did, I'd totally like, get you a huge bowl of it!

[ Alright, so she looks slightly more like she's had a decent meal than from when she's coming, but she doesn't remember that!! ]

Jumbo-sized meals! All-you-can-eat buffets! Pie-eating competitions!

Oh my gosh, you don't— [ oh my gosh!!! ] An all-you-can-eat buffet is like, a buffet of food! And you eat and eat until your stomach gets full! It's all you can eat!

No one has that much food.

Plenty of restaurants make that much food. I don't know if we could replicate it here, but we sure could try!

Is it just-- any kind of food?

Whatever the place specializes in! Chinese, Mexican, Beyondian... [ ... ] I thiiiiink Chinese does it the most often? Ooh, but there was that steakhouse that had it too, and then that Italian place with unlimited breadsticks...

[ Unlimited breadsticks. Holy shit. ]

There's no way they're really unlimited.

They make a whooole bunch every day all day and, as long as you're a paying customer and you're ordering off their menu, you can have as many as you want. An unlimited amount!
