Induction.
| No matter how much you mill around or discuss, no one can really figure out just what's going on here. Questions swirl around your minds, spoken and unspoken. Why is this place called a hospital so rundown? Why are you all here? Why is the building surrounded by ever-present fog? Who is running this place? That question will be answered soon, at least enough to whet your appetites. The public service system overhead squeaks and squeals, like it hasn't been used in a long time, though for a few moments, no words great you. Instead, just a few crackles, and a deep breath. And then. "Greetings, everyone. Each and everyone accounted for, good. That's good." It's a female voice, that you can tell, but it seems the technology here is so outdated that everything else is nebulous. It distorts every few words, the register either raising or lowering. "Hm. Sorry about that." A little hard listening and you can tell the voice isn't too old. Definitely not as old as some of you here. Aside from that, there's nothing distinguishable. None of you can recognize it. Whoever it is takes another deep breath. "Welcome, young and old, Patients of Beacon General Hospital. We've been looking forward to your awakening for some time." "We trust you have many questions, and we will do our best to field them. Please read the rules carefully before asking, though. Okay? Thanks." Another deep breath breaks the flow, with even more crackling. "As for the one speaking to you, you may... I am the Transmitter. Let all your inquiries go through me." [OOC: You can be heard just fine through the PA system, feel free to ask/say anything! Brackets or prose is fine.] |

An inquiry, if I may, aside from the obvious, as I'm sure that will be covered in time. There have been some slightly alarming differences between what people I've spoken to are familiar with. The answer... Well, it would be different realities, wouldn't it?

[ Alright, so this is the voice of their captor. Presumably, it's a girl speaking, but there's voice modulation software out there, and there's quite a bit of feedback, so it's hard to even assume that much with 100 percent certainty.
She does have questions, of course, but, let's get to the first concern-- ]
When you say "some time," how long, exactly, have we been asleep for?
[ She had reasoned with Nachetanya that it couldn't have been that long, but, from the way their kidnapper makes it sound... ]

[He's looking up at the ceiling from one speaker to another, a little uncertain of where to direct his gaze.]
I know we all have many questions, but if I may ask...how have your people brought me past the Barrier? Are you humans? [It's a little beyond belief, even for him, that some humans might have come and broken the Barrier just to...take him to a hospital? But it bears asking.]
no subject
[...A short pause there, okay.]
We assure you, your question isn't relevant. How you got here, we mean. Humans, yes. Yes, we suppose that would be correct.

[ Doug can't quite reach the intercom to kick it, so he's going to settle for pounding the nearest surface with his fist. Repeatedly. Because that's how you get someone's attention when you're Doug. ]
Hey, hey, hey! Look, I know you guys got a business to run, but don't you think you're going a bit too far with this?! Cut me some slack here! Some of us can only make so much without you guys squeezing us dry anytime we get so much as a bump on the head!

This situation has been ridiculous and more than infuriating to begin with, but as she listens in on some of the other conversations, Rin starts to feel a chill down her spine. There's something about the insistence on using titles, on the grounds that it makes things simple. Something about how it's more than one person watching over them all, and the reason the Transmitter gave for not wishing to give Kogami or the other smokers access to their cancer sticks.
In a situation that sees their captors subtly encouraging murder, they told him "We would prefer if you keep yourself healthy and safe."]
These are quite elaborate accommodations for a group that wishes to dehumanize us.

mostly because I just got home, and then says something.]Um, miss - actually, would you like me to call you Miss Transmitter or Mrs. Transmitter?
Either way, you told us how we could end this early, but I'm sure nobody is going to do that. So... Can you tell me the other way we can end this? Even if it takes longer, I'm sure we'd all prefer it.
no subject
Miss, if you have to, but Transmitter works fine. I don't see why a title should have a...title.
As for your other question...sorry, but that's something I can't answer right now. We, um, would prefer it otherwise.
