I suppose you could even say that I'm stuck in the future. So to me, it always seems sad to see people trapped by the present, or... the past. Arietta's need for vengeance, for example. I'm not sure if that could traditionally be called myopic, but to me, that can't constitute "ambition" or even "a dream." It's much closer to a mere "duty," which is nothing to live for.
