Week 3.

WEEK 3 Grace and Doug are dead. It seems that there isn't anything more to do but mourn your losses and try to move forward. The Transmitter's rules still hang in every room, a reminder of the only means of escaping this place. But surely no one else will give into them, right? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Once again, however, it seems your efforts won't go unrewarded; another set of corridors have opened up, much in the same fashion as the other new area did last week. With them come new rooms to explore; maybe some of them will be to your liking. Or perhaps it's better to say that hopefully some of them will; after all, if the Transmitter gets her way, you may be here for a very, very long time. PATIENTS REMAINING: 26

Mm. Think so. [ He's not great at keeping track of time, some of the days have started to blur together. ]

That's right. I'm done being stuck in the past. I've spent too long in it as it is.

[ She isn't hurt by Rin breaking out of her grab, at least, not physically. ]

Then... if you must kill someone, kill me. I don't want to deal with losing someone else important to me again. [ She knows it's selfish, but is it wrong to be for once in her life? ]

[ This seems like the kind of thing a kid would be excited over, if he's being honest. ]

Ah. Guess that'd be exciting. [ Without enthusiasm. ] Dunno though, I've never seen one up-close. Big, maybe.

Mages have no love for each other, or anyone but their own flesh and blood. We cooperate, but we know what we risk when we do. Your alchemists must operate in the open on some level, if they don't share that concern.

[It is oddly cheerful. It's a little bit concerning.

For a few moments behind the door there's silence, the soundproofing of the walls masking all noise inside until footsteps shuffle close enough to the door so as to be audible. Prepared for conflict, Rin opens the door a crack and stares out at George warily.

She wasn't expecting this face.]

If you've come to challenge me, you're early. I made it clear I won't make a move until Friday.

[He remembers the first conversation they had together, and the question he'd asked her then. He won't repeat it now, not in public.]

There's some level to that, sure; but Amestris is highly militarized. An alchemist who doesn't work for the state would probably be seen as a threat.

So on that level, it's different-- alchemy isn't something secretive, it's a tool of war, as far as the powers that be go.

Uh... right, 1700s. Imagine a play, except you're watching people go through their actual lives, and there's a director to the side telling them to ruin those lives on camera.

[For a moment, Rin is stunned.

And in the next, she looks properly furious.]

Don't say something like that to me, ever again. This isn't a joke!

Ah, no, it's more like... The people who own the building buy things from a lot of separate merchants and sell them at a central location, so it's more convenient for people who want to buy a lot of those things but don't have time to travel around. The people who own the building sell them for a higher price so they can make a profit.

[carnivorously]

Perhaps. Or it's just a random thing. Honestly, I don't know.

[It will most likely go in his discard pile.]

[Well, yeah he got weapons, but at first he's not sure why she's reacting so adversely. A little too adversely to his pile.

He sees the sight of her recognizing something and tries to trace her gaze. Is it the weird plush?]

Do you know anything about that?

[He goes to pick up the horrifying worm plush. Honestly, he wouldn't be surprised if it gave her nightmares.]

I know it isn't. That's why I'm saying it. [ If Rin is really dead set on keeping her secret from the world, then at least... ] I'll probably end up being targeted eventually, so... If it's you who does it, I wouldn't mind.

[ ...At least she could be of use. ]

[Yeah, his is... detailed. He's not sure why, but it doesn't really bother him anymore.]

I'm a latent criminal. I'm assuming it means the ones I work with-- worked with. We're all people who the system decided we think too much like a criminal so we need to be locked up before we actually commit a crime.

Oh, no no, don't misunderstand. I said chat and I meant that exact thing.

[ He's smiling, as he is most of the time, but it's subtle this time. Rin's announcement has left an impact on everyone who heard it, he's sure, and he is no exception to this. ]

I want to speak to you about the situation we're in and the choice you made, that is all of my intent. If you don't want to let me in under the current conditions, we may as well go someplace more public.

I know. It sounds a little strange to me, but... If it makes you more comfortable, then that's okay.

[A beat.]

Yeah... It's weird how they know so much about all of us, isn't it? Even with the profiles.

[She glances at him, but looks back to the small flame every moment or so to make sure it isn't traveling too close to her fingertips.]

Sounds like you've been preparing for your role since childhood then.

[ Whether she knew it or not... but heroism seems to be written all over Nachetanya's life in bold letters, one way or another. ]

And does she really not want to? Was none of this her choice at all? How can you be so sure?
