Take Responsibility.
The door at the northwestern corner of the foyer is open. It's hard to say when it opened, but the fact of the matter is that it seems to have; it leads to a separate hallway that seems to run alongside the dormitories. The hall is long and dimly-lit, but it's illuminated well enough to make it plain that the walls and floor in here are different; they're far less designed to give off an impression of grandeur - if anything, it's claustrophobic back here: the walls are close and darkly-colored, and the entire area is barren until it opens up into the room serving as your destination. The room is circular and high-ceilinged, covered in more of the exposed wood that lines the rest of the building; there aren't any visible lights, however, which is...odd, given how bright the place is. It lends the entire area a sense of unreality; it's easy to distract yourself from it, however, once you notice this place's centerpiece. In the center of the room is a circle of podiums, thirty in total, arranged so that everyone standing at them can see each other. So everyone can look each other in the eyes, if they so choose. The podiums are interlocked - there's no cutting across the center of the circle, and for good reason, it looks like there's a lot of nothing down there where the floor should be - and each is bearing the title of the person who's assigned to stand at it. No names, just adjectives, emblazoned across two brass panels on the very top and the front of each podium. Affixed to the podium itself is a panel with buttons on it, and again, there are thirty in total; next to the buttons are smaller strips of engraved metal to serve as labels, bearing the titles of everyone that's been present in the facility, living or dead. All of the podiums are identical, except for the one intended for Sayaka. The podium that should bear Attentive's title has had a black cloth draped over it, and a copy of Sayaka's profile photo is sitting on top of it, framed and colorless, an image in greyscale. Juri is nowhere to be found in here, but that doesn't mean you're alone down here; the feeling that you're being watched is strong, and he'll wait until you've had time to take in what you're looking at before he addresses you - over the public-address system again, from the sound of it. "Attentive's dead, and somebody's to blame for it - but you guys get to decide whether Rule Seven's carried out or not. It's your job to hold them responsible for what they've done. Good luck in doing it." |

[He'll take his place, Cunning title telling him where it is, and he leans against the podium with a glance to his side. Sayaka's photo isn't all that far away.
... Well, the only things in front of him is a few pieces of paper and a mug with teabags within, so they don't appear to mean so much right now. Ferid smiles widely, restraining his eagerness to see how this goes, and gestures to the empty podium.]
Let's work together and find out who hurt one of our dear friends, everyone! Who'll speak first, mm?

[Naoto stands straight, it's time to catch a culprit]
As we all know, the victim was Sayaka Maizono-san. She was killed in the women's bathroom. The cause of death shall be discussed by Rideaux-san or Aligula-san, whichever wishes to talk about it.
The fact Maizono-san was found in the women's bathroom doesn't mean the culprit is undoubtedly female. I figured it'd be appropriate to remind everyone about that, just in case. [One never knows if some would take that as a way to narrow down the suspect list, of course]
A good starting point would be to define the murder weapon.
[Naoto isn't bringing forth anything found...because she didn't find anything herself! And that's kind of embarrassing. However she does know about the scene itself and she peeked over Kirigiri's shoulder enouugh to have seen the discolored sink, so...]

POCKET CHECK BOYS
After that, we'll figure out what to do from there in regard to checking them for wounds, since the knife Sayaka is holding is pretty bloody. But right now, I want to see the insides of everyone's pockets, bags, anything that can hold anything, got it?! We're not gonna let this son of a bitch get away with this.
[ Chitoge doesn't have much to lay down on her podium; just her key, some pens, and some folded up pieces of paper, which most people from the party will probably recognize as the notepaper she was scribbling on off to the corner. No knives, though! ]

FULL STRIP SEARCH
Hey everyone, so it's time to get naked. Before anyone starts, I'm not excited about the idea either.
Someone from the girls can look over all of them and there can be probably be something done with the blankets to make a barrier or if we can get the Adjudicator to be nice and have them move to a room that's cool too. Whatever's easiest for you guys.
The guys obviously stick with the guys. Sound good?
[ He'll probs be stripping too, whenever a barrier between the ladies are set up or whatever. He doesn't want to scandalize any of the ladies. Repeat, he'll be doing this only when people start cooperating because this was embarrassing enough. Remind him to never be the first to bring this idea up again.
If someone refuses to strip, though, he can't be bothered to make them, honestly. ]

Tech...nically, shouldn't that mean the game is over?
[...Hi, Mallick.]
I mean, the point is to beat the rest of the group. We haven't...actually been told what happens if someone does that. Are we sure that letting someone win is a bad thing?
[Aaaaaaaaaand with that it looks like he's done having a spine and also exploring the hypothetical scenario where life isn't completely terrible, and he goes back to fidgeting with his clothes.]
...Of course if we don't want to do that we should. Um. Figure out what we know? What. Evidence we actually have. That isn't wild guessing or requiring the group to be naked.

CAT HERDING
First off, we know that Sayaka injured herself earlier this week, likely on her knife.
Shortly before the murder, she wrote at least one note. She sent it to Mallick, but he says he didn't go. It seems she was also planning to write letters to Inigo, Brady, and Chitoge, but never sent them. The three of them don't seem to have much in common besides their room number. But...
Well, it may just be my opinion, but I would wage that all four of them are among the easiest of us to kill. Inigo is a soldier but easily distracted when it comes to speaking to girls. Chitoge and Brady are both rather emotional and seem quite normal compared to many of us. And Mallick is easily flustered when put under pressure. This could also be why she didn't send anything to Ferid, despite his proximity to the others.
[ Sorry for the shade, buddies. ]
Regardless, she went to the dining hall, where she was then killed. It seems as though she may have initiated the struggle, though we can't say for sure. After that, whoever killed her dragged her to the bathroom, cleaned up the blood with some sort of chemical, and then burned a blanket taken from the storeroom.
I believe that the blanket and matches were taken from the storeroom after the murder. Whoever was looking for them did so in a hurry, and didn't clean up when they were done.
We don't yet know why she had a mug for tea, or why she didn't make it before the murder, or why she left her room unlocked. We also don't know who else received a letter.
As for the criminal... whoever it was did a sloppy job cutting Sayaka's throat. They seemed to be in a rush, or maybe a panic, because they failed to turn off the sink when they were done. And whoever they are, they burned the blanket in the incinerator but didn't turn it on. Either they didn't know how to use it, or thought it would take too long to fire up.
[ ... there. Mahiru takes a deep breath. ]
... So. How much further can we go with the information we have?
no subject
I think that she was sending them one at a time to people not only who she thought would be easy to kill but who would trust her enough - some people in that area didn't get them, so I don't think distance was the only factor - and I think that whoever got a note and accepted is probably the one who killed her. It explains the carelessness of the killer if it was in self-defense or an ambush, and also why the other notes were erased. But I didn't know her well enough to take this idea much further than that.

O-Okay, okay, look. First of all, she wasn't an...an opportunity, and fuck every single one of you that thinks that she was? Christ, that sort of shit says way more about you than it does about me... But I, uh. I. So, I, I got that letter last night from her, like I said, and...I wasn't going to follow it at all? Because there are a lot of reasons why. That's. A stupid idea. I mean, fuck, for all I know Ferid's good at forging handwriting and was waiting with a fucking sword, I don't know.
But Sayaka, she's...she was nice? And she really hates Juri and I didn't know what the fuck she wanted to talk about that late, so I just. I don't know, I thought it was a bad idea to have her out that late by herself, and she, she sounded upset so I, um...
[Just. Have some more twitching for good measure.]
She. She didn't really say too much, she just. Got right to the stabbing? Like as soon as I sat down with her, right out there with the knife and the fucking crazy eyes and I caught her hand and took the knife from her and shoved her out of the way, she caught herself on the table and I... [mnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngh.] I'm. Not. I'm not a good person and I didn't know what the fuck else to do with her and then she fucking died.
I don't. I don't know what else you want, are we done?

SELECTION.
[And there's the Adjudicator, sounding just about as even as ever despite everything that's been going on.]
The podium in front of you should have buttons labeled with everyone's titles. Select the title of the one you believe to be responsible for Attentive's death; majority rules.
no subject
So this is probably a fucked up thing to say, and I know the rules are different for this game than mine were.
But just keep in mind - if those fucking double doors open tomorrow and you find another section of the compound, you know what you have to do to keep moving through the fucking building. Keep going and there should be a way out eventually; there's no way there isn't.
Don't waste anyone's time screaming about options. You've got fuckin' two of them.
Live or die. Make your choice.

ACCOUNTABILITY.
And when the lights come up, it's not the lights in the trial room but rather streaming upward from the center - what looked like a black, nigh-bottomless abyss is actually a small arena-type area when properly lit. The walls and floor of the pit seem to be covered in tile of some sort, all of it blindingly white for the time being, though the light itself seems to undulate a little. Pulsing, almost like it's alive.
It soon becomes obvious what that place is for; Juri is already waiting down in the pit, and perhaps more importantly Mallick is no longer among you, though it doesn't take long for him to enter - it seems there's a door beneath his podium, forming itself out of what appeared to be solid tile moments before, and when he steps out...well, at the very least he seems to be trying really hard to take Robert's advice to heart and not go out quivering.
He seems wary of Juri, though, sort of like he's not wanting to get too close; he'll close some of the distance between them, but not all of it, and for a moment Juri just watches from the center of the room.
When he moves it's almost too fast to even track with normal vision, his speed and reflexes very obviously inhuman; Mallick flinches back from him, but he doesn't have time to react properly before Juri's hand is against his chest.]
Good night, Impulsive.
[Juri's voice can be heard echoing up from the pit, a split-second before there's a sudden burst of light from where he's got his hand pressed up against Mallick's body; it's brief and shining and golden in color, and once it's passed (from the culprit to the executioner, at the point of direct contact) Mallick quite simply drops to the floor. He's completely still, in that way that implies death rather than unconsciousness - there are no signs of life whatsoever.
And Juri looks entirely too pleased for someone who, for all intents and purposes, appears to have quite literally ripped a man's soul out and has a body lying at his feet; he looks up toward the others, right hand touching his brow briefly in a half-salute before he speaks again.]
You've all been pretty interesting today - you can go back out whenever you want, there's nothing left for you to do here.
