Week 1

WEEK 1

Unfortunately (or fortunately, for those of you who decided he ranks at an 8 or higher) the Adjudicator has made an appearance and he doesn't seem to be lying about anything that's happening here. There's no way out. It seems like you're stuck here for the time being and the rules the Adjudicator told you about are still hanging in every room. While the Adjudicator himself is around, you'll be left up to your own devices – feel free to continue exploring and getting to know your fellow Competitors for the next several days. Should you want to eat something you're free to use the kitchen before 10PM, but after that the doors will be locked and no amount of fussing with the locks or trying to break them down will get them to budge.

You'll notice that the clock in the foyer goes off periodically, however. This will happen every morning at 7AM and again in the evenings at 10PM. You'll be able to hear it no matter what room you're in; it seems it's being piped in over that PA system in the walls. There isn't any punishment for sleeping through it, but you don't want to waste the day in bed, now do you?

(Unless you were out exploring all last night. In which case, go back to bed, damn.)

COMPETITORS REMAINING: 30

MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

[OOC: Welcome to week one of Trustfell! Feel free to make as many top levels as you'd like and tag out to other characters! This post is for all of your interactions this week... at least until the weekend. Don't forget to save those threads for coins and the activity check!

If you'd like to get in contact with the Adjudicator, you can do so here!]
meanttobe: we'll soak up the sun and get the ultimate tan. (the radio blasts and here's the plan:)

[Nods!!] Alright, so this is the start of the scale. It's a C. Which is the most important note on piano? Everything's in the key of C, if you see a C on a music sheet, it's a C. That's pretty much what I know about reading piano music- anyway--

So see those two black keys after it? That's how you know it's a C. Every white key before two black keys is a C. [He demonstrates, one low, one higher.] They sound the same tonally, right? They're just octaves apart.

Ah, I see...

[Or hear, as we should say. Cilan will tap a low key, and then a higher one as well, getting a feel for the piano keys under his hand here. How's that?]
meanttobe: it's destiny callin' (when it's meant to be!)

[personal profile] meanttobe 2016-07-08 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, nice! See- it's called an octave because you've got C. [Plays it again.] And then D, E, F, G, A, B, C. [And with each of those, he walks his fingers down the piano, pressing the corresponding key.]

That's eight. They're always in the same order, so if you can find C you can go from there and find a G or an F or something.
cilantro: (tea time is always a good time)

[personal profile] cilantro 2016-07-09 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hm... I suppose once you memorize the order of notes, it next becomes a matter of practice and studying sheet music in order to play a specific song, perhaps?
meanttobe: the chance for a perfect duet (i believe we all have a soulmate)

[personal profile] meanttobe 2016-07-09 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Mmhm! If I could get some, we could, like, have actual proper lessons! ...And I could probably figure out how to read sheet music a bit better myself.

It's not just about memorizing, though. The amount of force you put on the keys? That changes the sound. Try pressing one pretty gently, and then pressing the same note, harder. But don't just smack it, like...push from your wrist. That'll get a better sound.
cilantro: (no one understands us except pansage)

[personal profile] cilantro 2016-07-10 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? [He'll press one (an E key) gently, before attempting to put a little more force into it when pressing it again.

... Thankfully he didn't smack it, but it might sound like he needs to maybe try a little harder as it otherwise sounds almost the same as it did before.]
meanttobe: (that i'm gonna make it)

[personal profile] meanttobe 2016-07-10 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
[...Welp.] Maaaybe try a little harder than that, bud. Here, like this.

[And, he demonstrates, on a G this time! First, a soft, gentle noise. Then, a louder one!]

It takes some getting used to. You just kinda learn the right amount of pressure to apply to get the sound you want, with time.
cilantro: (unfairly attractive fictional character)

[personal profile] cilantro 2016-07-10 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
[He tries again, and while it is an improvement over what he did before, it could be a little better.]

Mm, I suppose I'll have to practice this some more while we're here.

meanttobe: (and if you listen you'll find your heart)

[personal profile] meanttobe 2016-07-10 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Good job, that's better already!

There's other things to do to make it sound different, like the pedals, but we can go into that another time.
