Week 2.

WEEK 2 With the deaths of Sayaka Maizono and Mallick Scott the first week draws to a close. While you all have varying opinions on what happened and who was to blame, one thing's for sure: the Adjudicator isn't messing around. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... However, those weird dreams aren't the only new thing around here; those massive double doors on the southern wall of the foyer have opened up, leading down another hallway and ending in what looks like another corridor to the west. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; consider it your reward for a job well done. Or perhaps for just playing the game. COMPETITORS REMAINING: 28

Aren't you just lucky.

[That sure is Rideaux leaning in the doorway, being the guest no one ever invited.

Isn't it just great that two people died for this.]

Looks like we can actually get those burns on the mend now.

[ Do you just ever hear someone speak and get really pissed off.

Because that's happening. Katniss shuts the cabinet door with a little more force than necessary, not looking too happy about it as she turns to face him. Sure, she's gonna be able to get help... actual help. But. ]

Yeah. So glad people died and we got this fancy new room.

[evilfrenzy]

[Oooh, testy. Hopefully Katniss wasn't expecting a response of compassion from Rideaux, because she's going to be disappointed.]

A noble sacrifice, certainly. Medical supplies and an entertainment room.

[It's probably no wonder why he didn't bother with the afterparty either.]

[flagitate]

[ She's not even going to expect anything from him except him being a jerk. Clearly, they both win. ]

Lucky us.

[ She opens another cabinet and pulls down a jar. ]

Enough burn ointment to last months. Juri really cares about our wellbeing.

[Excellent plan.

He comes over to join Katniss at the cabinets.]

The existence of this room is a wonder to me. I thought the goal is for people to die, but here he is, allowing me to actually do my job properly.

[He'll take the jar to examine it if Katniss will let him. Otherwise he'll just look at it while she's holding it.]

This seems like good stuff, too. It'll cut the healing time down a decent amount.

[flagitate]

He just doesn't want us to die of natural causes. Being murdered is a lot more interesting.

[ Yeah, she'll let him. She's not really in much of a mood to put up a fight, or anything. ]

Great. I found more bandages, too.

[evilfrenzy]

But then why bring you here with massive burns? To see if someone would take advantage of that?

[...That does sound interesting depending on how it would be handled actually, so never mind. He won't say that out loud though, of course.

He nods in the direction of the bandages.]

Good to know those aren't confined to just the vending machine. How stupid would that be?

And I sincerely doubt there's going to be any spyrix lying around...

[He's going to look anyway, of course. He wants to see everything that's in here.]

[flagitate]

Probably.

[ In other words: beats her. ]

Hey, maybe with any luck, you'll get some of that stuff in the vending machine.

[He thinks about that as he continues to poke through the cabinets.]

It would be nice. But even if I managed to recover one, I have a feeling that I wouldn't be able to make it function properly.

[flagitate]

[ She fiddles with a roll of bandages. ]

I still don't know what spyrix is.

[evilfrenzy]

They're devices that allow me to use artes.

Have you heard of Isaac's alchemy yet? It's...kind of similar to that, but the process is a bit different.

[flagitate]

... Yeah, he told me about it. Are artes like magic?

[evilfrenzy]

It's easiest to explain it like that, yes. We use them by contacting a spirit with our spyrix. We make something like a contract with the spirit, and then the spirit lends its power to use the arte.

[It's not exactly what a spyrix does, but it's the story he's giving. It's not like anyone can refute what he's saying.]

[flagitate]

[ ... that sounds kind of cool, what the hell. ]

I'll take your word for it.

[evilfrenzy]

[It's only cool if you're born with an actual mana lobe. Or don't give a shit about spirits' well-being like Rideaux here.]

That said, I have no idea if spirits are even present where we are. If Isaac's alchemy along with everyone else's abilities aren't working, then I'm not exactly counting on it.

[flagitate]

Something like that, I'm pretty sure the Adjudicator would suppress it.

[evilfrenzy]

That's what he claimed, more or less. I'm guessing it's the location.

[...Oh, he's found the surgical kits. Don't mind him as he examines these scalpels.]

It means I have to keep using less efficient means of treating patients, but this is obviously a big step up from the crude treatment that we had to do in each other's bathrooms.

[...that would be such a bad spot in the conversation for someone to walk into.]

[ Should she be trusting him with those scalpels... ]

I guess he listened to me after I talked to him about it. [ ... Which probably means he doesn't want to deal with her being kind of really a brat in his office. ]

[evilfrenzy]

[Everything is fine. Tooootally fine.]

Oh, so you did talk to him about it? I mean, I certainly can't blame you, but I'm just surprised that he actually complied.

[flagitate]

And other stuff.

[ She's still sore about it. ]

I'm not talking to him again, though.

[evilfrenzy]

He didn't give you the actually important answers.

[He can kind of guess. Experience and all that.]

[flagitate]

No. But he knows something. A lot of stuff.

[evilfrenzy]

Oh, that much is certainly obvious. [...] At the very least, whomever is feeding him information does.

Doesn't explain how someone else dug up all this information on us.

It doesn't. Nor does it explain how they got us all here in the first place.

There are far too many mysteries for my liking.
