Week 2.

WEEK 2
With the deaths of Sayaka Maizono and Mallick Scott the first week draws to a close. While you all have varying opinions on what happened and who was to blame, one thing's for sure: the Adjudicator isn't messing around.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

However, those weird dreams aren't the only new thing around here; those massive double doors on the southern wall of the foyer have opened up, leading down another hallway and ending in what looks like another corridor to the west. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; consider it your reward for a job well done.

Or perhaps for just playing the game.

[ Ahhhhh, so there's another section to this place. Aligula's none-too-hesitant about pausing by Isaac to study the opening herself, tilting her head at him—maybe it's not good to talk to the only person who outright yelled at her at the end there, but she's never been one to avoid others over stuff like that.

Never mind that her and Ferid never went to the afterparty. They took one look at it and decided everyone was too sad and too boring (though Inigo hosting it was a big and heavily-debated pro). ]

Looks like Impulsive was right, huh?

Yeah. He was.

[Isaac doesn't sound upset or angry, just sort of blank. It takes him a moment to look down at Aligula and even then he doesn't seem too bothered.]

...I'm not sorry for yelling at you. You were out of line.

[That's not angry or annoyed either, it's just an explanation.]

But I've gotta ask you something anyway. Can you just... Can you leave all of that alone? They're both dead. Give them some kind of respect now, alright?

[He gets why Aligula was refusing to let Mallick go so easily. As ugly as it is to admit it, Maizono was an opportunity. He believes Mallick didn't consciously look at it that way, but that's ultimately what it came down to. Maizono attacked him and what the hell was Mallick going to do? Act like it didn't happen? Try to convince everyone that Sayaka Maizono had attacked him? It's fucked up, but he gets why Mallick killed her too.

The entire thing weighs heavily on him, but the one thing he can focus on is that Maizono and Mallick are dead.]

[ Well, she's not gonna apologizing for digging her heels in, so him not apologizing for yelling at her is just fine, to be honest. ]

We're gonna have to make more sacrifices to get further along, you know. That's exactly what he was talking about there at the end.

[ She's tiny, so she has to sort of—crane her neck and step back some to look up at him, but here we go. ]

I won't drag their names [ or titles, really ] through the mud or anything, because I'm totally not that kind of girl, but like, you knoooow if we want to get to the end of whatever Impulsive thinks this is, more people are gonna have to die?

[ So they're sacrifices. ]

...Besides, I totally liked them, you know? Attentive was my neighbor and she had so much to live for! Even if she was totally gonna, you know, leave us for dead. [ She wants to like, give her a medal or s/t, that was totally badass. AT THE SAME TIME SHE'S GLAD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. ] And Impulsive wasn't bad to talk to. He gave me a dress and a bra! They were both totally awesome gifts... But like, my life over his, you know? Even if self-defense is a dumb reason to get executed.

[ ...see she can agree on that, even though it's also totally guilt-free murder. ]

[Isaac glances away at some point because Aligula isn't wrong. She's not wrong at all and it's easy to acknowledge that, but that's... it feels fucked up. He hates the idea of it, but it's so easy to see that she's right and for some damn reason, seeing it as sacrifices instead of deaths is easier than it was during the trial.

Today's just a bad day, maybe.]

...I know people are going to die. Even if they don't have to, they will. But... it's going to be really tough on everyone. So...

[He's not sure how to word it and he looks frustrated while he tries to work it out.]

I don't like the idea of calling them sacrifices. It's upsetting. A lot of the others probably think the same way too. So... could you not word it like that? Especially not during... well, during the trial. Mallick knew he was going to die. We all knew it. So it didn't need to be said and it was just...

[He trails off and shakes his head. It would be easy to stay mad at Aligula and some part of him wants to because it would be easy. But ultimately he isn't and he's just left feeling empty.]

[ ...a very thoughtful hum. ]

Soooo I just shouldn't call them sacrifices in front of most people, and definitely not at trials?

[ She can still think of them as that, because it's essentially what they are on some level, but it'd be bad taste to say it out loud. ]

...Yeah. Yeah, that's what I'm asking for. We've got kids here and people who are never going to handle this well so... it's best if we don't make any more trouble than we have to, right?

[And keeping the peace isn't really much, but it's better than constantly fighting with Aligula in trials about this sort of thing.]

[ ...well, sure. ]

Okaaaay. [ It's easy enough to do, and it's not like it's hurting her anyway to not use it.

though— ] People just don't like facing what they're really doing, do they? Acknowledging it, I mean!

[ it's not argumentative or like she's trying to start something, but—matter of fact, and a little curious. she doesn't usually hang out with humas, she hangs out with a bunch of nutjobs that aren't shy about wearing their vices. ]

...Honestly? Yeah. I know some of them are probably upset by having to vote for Mallick. It's like sending him to his death. It gets us directly involved and I'm sure the Adjudicator set it up that way intentionally to make us feel awful about it.

[He doesn't though. He really does believe that he should, but he did what he had to in order to survive and he feels no guilt at all over choosing Mallick's title. Is that fucked up? He's not sure.]

This whole situation's fucked up, but I don't want to make it any harder on anyone than it has to be. So... thanks. I really mean it.

Someone's proooobably gonna put us in that situation again, you know? And it'll totally be on purpose next time, too.

[ or it could be an accident again but the point is if someone dies, they're going back to the courtroom. ]

I'll agree he totally set it up that way, or if he didn't, he didn't think about changing it at all—he's totally a sadist. [ which is nothing wrong like you do you just don't fuck up an entire group of people just to get off maybe???? ] It's prooobably insensitive of me, but like, I hope it gets easier for people because I get the feelin' that we're gonna be going in there a lot in the coming weeks.

Mostly because I super doubt anyone's gonna be willing to wait to find a better way when we have a totally secure reward system here à la new places to explore.

Someone's always going to be okay risking everything for the payoff. Everyone here has something to return to and some people might think the risk is worth it. It's fucked up. It's fucked up that we've been put in a situation like this to begin with, but it's just as fucked up that we can't trust anyone because if Maizono could decide to do that, what's stopping anyone else?

[Trusting anyone here is a death sentence as far as Isaac's concerned.]

You're right though. It is a bit insensitive, but I agree completely. If it gets easier then trials like that will be shorter and people won't hurt as much after it's over. That's really the most we can hope for right now, since I doubt this will end any time soon.

I'm glad we can totally agree! [ so so—patting his arm, when she steps back towards him ] Is that all you wanted to say to me? So we can like, get off this really depressing topic and onto something way funner! Like the dumb toys you can get out of the vending machine.

[...Well, you know what, Aligula actually attempted (he thinks?) so he's willing to let it go.]

Either that means you actually got something interesting out of it or you think I did.

I don't know if I'd call it interesting. [ HMMM. ] I got some dumb caterpillar toy that wiggles when you pull the string... It's really gross to watch, so I might give it to Ferid? Ooh, and a handbook on swindling! And a notebook I can totally use as a diary, and some chalk, and underwear—like those really poofy bloomer types—and... food.

Chocolate-covered jerky or something like that and a bag of sweet rolls. The bread was delicious! [ ....... ] I'm totally not touching the jerky though, that sounds totally gross.

[ and some other stuff but /waves hand THESE ARE THE IMPORTANT THINGS, OBVIOUSLY. ]

I've gotten more jewelry than I know what to do with, some dice, a tea cup... food... uh. A lot of stuff.

Brady got another one of my uniforms from the machine though, so at least there's that.
