Week 3.

WEEK 3 Grace and Doug are dead. It seems that there isn't anything more to do but mourn your losses and try to move forward. The Transmitter's rules still hang in every room, a reminder of the only means of escaping this place. But surely no one else will give into them, right? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Once again, however, it seems your efforts won't go unrewarded; another set of corridors have opened up, much in the same fashion as the other new area did last week. With them come new rooms to explore; maybe some of them will be to your liking. Or perhaps it's better to say that hopefully some of them will; after all, if the Transmitter gets her way, you may be here for a very, very long time. PATIENTS REMAINING: 26

Oh, I've got plenty of interest in the world. It's just how it is, and naturally, I sought to understand it.

My mistake, then. But in that case, what answer did you find, if any?

Are you sure you wish to know? It isn't a light topic.

If it's a chance to learn from my elders, I would be remiss not to take it. If you don't mind, that is.

In that case... What do you think "life" is?

[aspiringly]

[Life, huh. There's a number of different ways that could be interpreted.]

That would depend. If you're asking for a strict definition, then it would be the time that an organism is able to exist and propagate. But otherwise, I would say it's the struggle to survive that separates the living from the inanimate.

That's true. An empty struggle where all living beings drag one another down to continue to survive. I used to believe that there was more, but I haven't for a very long time now.

[aspiringly]

But is it so empty even if there's something to aspire to? Even if you see the struggle itself as meaningless, much can be accomplished in its wake.

[crywiththesaints]

Oh? You're a surprisingly hopeful person.

[aspiringly]

Is it really that strange? I think most people would say that they have something to keep them going.

[crywiththesaints]

Perhaps. But many more are lost, and you have seen combat.

[aspiringly]

And yet, even tragedies and deaths can have meaning. Some foundations wouldn't have existed if it weren't for the sacrifices others have made.

You're right, of course. Perhaps that's what will end the experiment eventually.
