Week 3.

WEEK 3 Grace and Doug are dead. It seems that there isn't anything more to do but mourn your losses and try to move forward. The Transmitter's rules still hang in every room, a reminder of the only means of escaping this place. But surely no one else will give into them, right? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Once again, however, it seems your efforts won't go unrewarded; another set of corridors have opened up, much in the same fashion as the other new area did last week. With them come new rooms to explore; maybe some of them will be to your liking. Or perhaps it's better to say that hopefully some of them will; after all, if the Transmitter gets her way, you may be here for a very, very long time. PATIENTS REMAINING: 26

... Yes he is, why wouldn't he be?

He was created by humans to serve a certain purpose, and his personality only exists as defined by the programming that was put into him.

He isn't alive.

But the profile says he has likes and dislikes, he can still act and speak and move. Even if humans did make him, he's still alive?

He does nothing that would actually make him alive, though - it's all programmed in, not a natural response.

What makes that different than living, though?

The lack of genuine agency, for one.

Mmm, but are animals that different? They act according to what their needs are, usually.

[enhancements]

They weren't created by someone else specifically to have those needs, however.

The fiends, where I'm from, were. I don't know if I'd call them not alive.

Am I going to regret asking what those are...?

[nachetanya]

Fiends are creatures created by the Evil God. [ She puts a hand over her chest ] They're made as extensions of its body and its will, and while they can think make decisions, they're subject to its "will" and move in accordance to it. The majority of them are only about as intelligent as animals, and appearance wise they often look like combinations of various animals, and can change their bodies over time to suit their needs.

...So they're essentially demonic chimeras created by some sort of deity.

[...That's. Uh.]

[ She nods ] The Evil God does have a physical form to a degree and I don't know what a chimera is, but ... yes, I imagine that's close enough.

They sound fascinating, for what it's worth.

[nachetanya]

They are mysterious. Most humans don't understand a lot about them other than... their will to kill.
