trustfelled | Week 5.

WEEK 5
Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here.

Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember...

It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet.

Not particularly. It's been a long time since I've read something, so I thought I might switch things up a bit.

What are you planning on reading?

[He nods to the book. It looks like a mythology book from his standpoint.]

It's a collection of Greek mythologies. I'm not really familiar with them, though I am with Japanese mythos. Are you?

[ The book has several tales, King Midas, Cupid, the Trojan War, Odysseus and so on. ]

I'm vaguely familiar with them if only because of school.

[Which was well over ten years ago for him...]

Does that mean you don't have a favorite?

Not particularly. Mythology was never something I liked reading, unfortunately.

[It all seemed fanatical to him-- it wasn't always philosophical. Just morals for everyday life or stories of gods that he didn't really care for.]

What's got you interested in Greek mythology if you're only familiar with the Japanese ones?

I would be lying if I didn't tell you it was my dream last night. [ And Kogami is good at catching lies, and he's not really here for being confrontational. ]

I'm curious about the reason they were written.

[Kogami is damn good at catching lies and that's an argument he doesn't need to try to have now.]

You mean if they were written for entertainment or if they were written the same reason the bible was written?

The latter, though I don't question some of the former was involved as well.

So you're looking into why these Greek figures were worshiped, then? Or is there more to it, like the actual stories that happened?

[Because if he recalls, Greek Mythology was pretty damn brutal...]

More like... why the stories were created in the first place. Part of it is cultural, but don't you think they were created to fill a void? To answer the questions humans will never know the answer to.

People do need something to answer to. A god, a deity, a system. Without something guiding them, a lot of people don't really know or understand what to do with themselves.

[At least, it makes sense to Kogami. They answer to a system and everything it says.]

Is that how it is? Humans have nearly infinite potential, yet they often fall prey to their vices and sins again and again. Once enough people believe or desire something, it's an unstoppable wave and must be seen through.

That's definitely one way to think about it. It's not just one person who wants to believe, it's a significant amount of people who want to believe. For those people, since they share the same thought, those beliefs become truths to them. At least, that's probably how it works.

[ A nod. ] I agree.

...but I also think that's dangerous.

It is dangerous, because then those group of people will refuse to believe anything else. Even the truth.

You sound like you've seen this happen before.

Not exactly. I've just seen someone who was able to manipulate people like this.

What happened to them?

Well, the abettor is dead now. Most of the people are, too since Sybil executed them.

Abettor?

Someone who willingly helps and supplies others with a means to do something. In this case, murder.

Ah....and Sybil is close to a "God" in your world, right?

Yes. And people are rebelling against this "God" whenever they can when they don't have Sibyl's blessing. So it doesn't require worship; you simply must be "chosen" in a sense.

That sounds kind of like fate.
