Week 5.

WEEK 5 Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here. Is yours? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember... It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet. PATIENTS REMAINING: 22

There's a notebook Nachetanya had; it included profiles on all of us. George and I decided to distribute each of them to the individual they correspond to.

[Rin pulls out a piece of paper; the notes on Ryoji.]

I think you should take yours, and read it.

[cadmiums]

Even now, I can't understand her. [ He doesn't really want to read what she had to write about him, but he might as well. With a small sigh he turns around and walks back over to her, to take the piece of paper. ]

[heritrix]

[She'll hand it to him wordlessly, curious to see if he'll read it right there.

Rin hopes he does. His reaction will decide her course of action from here.]

[cadmiums]

[ Read it he does, because he might as well just get it over with. He's silent, though at the end he's definitely frowning. ]

You can keep this, I don't want it.

[heritrix]

[A frown is still more expression than he's shown in the past several minutes. Rin qualifies it as a good thing.]

I'll likely burn it. Is that acceptable?

[cadmiums]

Yeah. [ He folds it up and hands it back to her. ]

Did she judge everyone else on how useful they were to their world? [ Because that's what that last bit sounds like to him, coupled with what she said during her trial. ]

[heritrix]

She did, in fact, based on what information she learned from us. All to eager to sacrifice us for her ambitions, she made it a point to weight each and every one of our lives.

[The inflection in Rin's voice is hard to pin down, as she speaks this.]

[cadmiums]

[ He...kind of laughs. ]

How arrogant of her.

[heritrix]

It was more consideration than I was expecting, but otherwise I agree.

[cadmiums]

I'm kind of glad she didn't have the whole story behind our lives.

[heritrix]

Because it would make you angry?

[cadmiums]

No. It might have made it easier for her and... if you're going to be responsible for that many deaths, it shouldn't be something done lightly.

[ It's said rather firm. ]

[heritrix]

I don't disagree with that either.

[cadmiums]

[ Nod. ]

I won't ever understand her, but I guess it doesn't matter now.

[heritrix]

And Tsubasa?

[cadmiums]

Also doesn't matter now.

[ ... ]

But I can understand her, at least a part of me can.

[heritrix]

[He really isn't like himself. Really, really.]

Saying things like that without context... Aren't you being a little arrogant yourself now?

[cadmiums]

[ Perhaps he's said a little too much and he falters before he finally responds. ]

That was...cold of me. She acted how she did because she was human, right?

[heritrix]

I'm not sure what you mean by that. [Her face is downturned.] Because she was tricked? Because she fell in love, and thought she was safe?

[cadmiums]

[Why he said he could understand her better.]

[cadmiums]

Yeah, why?

[heritrix]

Nothing.

[She was just relieved that under the odd behavior, there was still a line of thinking reminiscent of himself.]

Sorry to have kept you, Mochizuki-kun. I know you were on your way out. [She says this crisply.] We'll talk again soon.

[Wednesday, by her current planning. It may take some tweaking once she sees what's in store for them on Tuesday, but she wants to try.]

[ This might bother him later, but he's still upset about something she said. In any case, he'll throw her a wave as he leaves. ]
