Week 5.

WEEK 5 Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here. Is yours? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember... It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet. PATIENTS REMAINING: 22

Look, you don't know Jyushimatsu, all right? He's... Uh... He's just weird. Sometimes in a good way, and sometimes in a bad way. We don't really know what to make of 'im!

No, no, I understand how you think now, Matsuno-san. I guess to you, I'm weird too.

[She's picking this up very quickly now.]

Eh? That's... not what I meant at all! You're not... well, okay, you're weird, too, but it's more of a cool-weird than a weird-weird.

[YOU'RE STILL CALLING HER WEIRD, OSOMATSU...]

I'm sorry, Matsuno-san. I should have recognized that was a compliment, the likes of which you would give to a weirdo in a carnival sideshow.

[Just this face, as she perfectly follows the beat now. Why does that smile look so scary...]

[this. this is why he gets in trouble with girls...

he rubs his face, missing a few arrows. fortunately, the song is over, and they both did fine. now that they've stopped dancing, Osomatsu can actually speak, and maybe pull his foot out of his mouth]

That's not what I mean, Tohsaka-san. You use magic, so... of course that'd be weird to me. But I'm nothing! I'm a normal human who doesn't have any special powers. Hell, I'm not even that strong!

In fact. [he steps off the platform here, for some reason] I'm not normal. I'm worse than normal! If I was normal, I'd at least have a job, or maybe even a girlfriend... [ah, he's getting off track here... focus, Osomatsu]

What I'm saying is, my opinion of you doesn't really matter. I'll bet you've got a ton of friends, and you're popular and smart. So don't pay attention to some less-than-normal guy's words. There's good stuff in you, Tohsaka-san. And... and I'm sorry you even have to breathe the same air as me.

[and with that, he starts to leave. his mood has tanked a bit, because he's worried he's angered her. dammit, why does he even talk?]

[Well, a lot of things happen at once then. Close to the end of the song, Rin notices Osomatsu is missing more arrows (when they got to the part where you have to hold your foot down she looked over at him again, not sure what to do, but he missed it too...). She was annoyed, yes, but did she take her teasing too far?]

[Before she has a moment to consider that further, as soon as the song is done, a speech was the last thing she was expecting. Surprise gives way to annoyance. How she as a magic user would look to him was something she hadn't considered in the moment, but everything that comes after puts her off. Is he just using this as an excuse to look down on himself?

Rin is legitimately trying to understand him, but it's hard when he's like this. Not once has she looked down on herself in such a fashion and has the mindset of one who's only known success in her life. She can't fathom any other lifestyle, or the insecurities of a perfectly average man. Very nearly, she opens her mouth to give him a piece of her mind—]

["I'll bet you've got a ton of friends..."
"There's good stuff in you, Tohsaka-san."

Whatever thought she had is quashed fairly quick. That hurts deeper than it should, and she can't even remember what she was going to say.]

[It's only as he's leaving that she remembers to seize back on to that annoyance, even if she has to take it in a new direction.]

H-Hey, what was that about?! [She climbs off the platform, heading back for him.] We were having a good time, weren't we?

[honestly, Osomatsu wasn't really looking to put himself down, rather he is more concerned with Rin taking any stock into what he says. he jokes around a lot, but to call a girl weird... that was rude, no two ways about it. even calling Jyushimatsu weird was rude, but what else can he call Jyushimatsu? it doesn't mean that he doesn't love his brother, but Jyushimatsu is miles away from any of them understanding him.

anyway.

Osomatsu pauses when Rin speaks to him, his hands tucked into his pants pockets. they were having a good time, before he made things awkward]

...Yeah. [a sad smile as he turns his head over his shoulder] Sorry about that.

[heritrix]

[He's trying to smooth things over, but he's gotten her on a roll now because she's completely missed his point.]

"Sorry"? That came out of nowhere! I was annoyed, but I didn't say any of those things.

[relieable]

[just shoot him now. he's going to make everyone mad at him at this rate. ugh, he really is awful]

... [what does he even say? why is he still standing here?]

It's just. Most girls I talk to... that's what they think. [ah, it finally comes out, softly]

[heritrix]

[Huff.] Admittedly I wouldn't look twice at you either, but that's because until this I'd have no reason to. Do you like who you are as a person?

Yes! I mean... Sometimes? For the most part, I do... [but there are some things Osomatsu probably doesn't like about himself]

[heritrix]

[She seems to intuit that; as much because of what he's said about himself as it is due to human nature.]

Then you don't have a problem. Keep the things you like about yourself the same, and change whatever you see as a flaw. Most of the things you're so concerned about are easy fixes.

Cooking and cleaning for yourself like an adult, getting a job? If you can survive this, you'll never have a problem with those things again. And you know something else?

[She leans in, pointing a finger at his chest.] Girls will like you for it. Girls like guys who can take care of themselves, and won't mooch off of them. They're happiest when a guy pays for dinner, or has the money to buy them flowers. Or says "hey, let's have a night in!" and can cook at home.

[but all that sounds so hard.

...then again, Rin is right. if Osomatsu can survive this whole... mess... then getting a job would be easy. though Osomatsu's not sure how he will go back to being normal after this traumatic event. he's not even sure he'll last longer]

...Yeah. [he agrees with her, but he still looks a bit gloomy. he sighs, then takes in a breath, then lightly pats his cheeks to force away the sad thoughts] You're really good at pep-talks, you know?

[heritrix]

[...she turns red a little, head turned.]

I wouldn't call that a pep talk. That was me letting off steam. [She waves a hand at him in a shooing motion, as if to banish those thoughts.] If it benefits you, that's just a bonus.

[relieable]

[heh... Osomatsu is beginning to think he is figuring out how Rin works. he smiles again, at last]

A bonus, huh? [hehe. he rubs his nose, a bit embarrassed about earlier] Whatever you say.

[heritrix]

[Nerds.

A short pause follows as Rin stands there, risking a glance at him after a moment.]

Anyway, whatever happens regarding all of that is up to you. But even if you give up immediately, I think your normalcy is a strength. For everything you lack, you have something incredible.

[relieable]

[his... normalcy is incredible? Osomatsu's never heard anyone say that before]

Incredible... [his eyes flick down for a moment in thought. he's blushing lightly] That's another thing most people don't say when they meet me.

[heritrix]

You really don't get it, huh?

[She doesn't sound annoyed, it's just an observation.]

No, I imagine you wouldn't. It's one of those things that only stands out in a place like this.

[And with that enigmatic statement, she makes to go.] I think I'll go look around the new corridor some more. I'll see you later, Matsuno-san.

[WHAT DO YOU MEAN, RIN]

Ahh... Okay, later... [he holds up his hand in a wave, looking a bit confused. but he's not upset, at least]

[heritrix]

[With no hard feelings on her end, Rin gives him a friendly smile as she leaves. She never intends to explain.

But he might figure it out later.]
