trustfelled | Week 5.

WEEK 5
Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here.

Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember...

It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet.

Games are a funny thing. The best way to satisfy a curiosity about them is to play them.

Have you played this kind of game before?

Nope. [Yes, as of three days ago, and more repeatedly since.] Until this week I'd never stepped foot in an arcade.

Let's try it out together.

[He considers that for a moment. Had it been Nachetanya asking, he would have agreed without much thought. But Nachetanya turned out to be an insane person and he doesn't trust people easily and this game looks stupid as hell--]

Sure, why not.

[But he's never going to get anywhere if he gets hung up on Nachetanya's death and betrayal and more importantly, it's late enough at night that they're the only two around.]

[Rin looks pleased as punch, as she climbs up on the platform.]

Okay! You get up here too, then. [Rin looks through the songs and, you know what? She's going with AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH.] What difficulty ranking do we want? It looks like there's five options.

[He'll join her up there and when it comes to difficulty...]

Might as well see what the middle difficulty's like and adjust from there.

Standard it is!

[And unfortunately I can't find a youtube clip for it, so here's the music but use you imagination for the steps. Locking in the setting, Rin watches the graphics play out and readies herself into position.]

[So despite never having played a game like this before, Krauser's actually really good. His reflexes are amazing and he's able to hit most of the arrows pretty easily and he actually looks sort of bored while he's doing it, like this is too easy.

So how are you doing, Rin?]

[Rin is also looking bored, actually! Like she's putting arm movements to the beat, because it's a dancing game, but the steps to this song are a lot easier than other ones she's tried on the same level. It's not a challenge at all to keep pace, so the only fun she's getting out of this is learning that Krauser is a surprisingly great dancer.]

I think I picked a bad song. [About halfway through, she tells him this even as she keeps up the pace. There's a lot of GROOVY'S being said by the announcer guy.] You should choose the next one.

[At least Rin looks like she's getting into it!! Shame about the song, though.]

Fine.

[So he'll go back to Pluto Relinquish, because that's the one he was watching and it looks hard as fuck. Krauser has zero chill.]

You ready?

[Rin perks up when she sees his choice; she remembers this one! He was just playing it a few seconds ago. It ended quickly, but there were so many arrows she remembers. Shifting in place from heel to toe, like she's a character in Street Fighter or something, Rin looks like she's getting psyched for the challenge.]

Let's go, Krauser.

[And here we go! Unsurprisingly, this is going to be difficult because of the change in tempos and the sheer amount of arrows on the screen, but Krauser's actually managing to keep up really well. Once again, his reflexes are good and he's already watched the first set of arrows a few times before so that's easier, it's the latter part that he's not quite as good at. He'll still manage to pass the song if we get that far, though!

What about you, Rin? How are you doing?]

[This is her first time on an expert ranked song, and boy was this a helluva one to pick. Sacrifices have to be made, so unlike the last dance Rin is only focusing on her foot movements here.

Rin is a natural athlete and her footwork flows well, indicating a certain level of skill. It's not the sheer amount of arrows that are throwing her off, apparently, but the speed they're coming at. There's no long string of combos from her, but several decent ones in short bursts. She'll definitely pass as well!]

[Looks like we did it!! Good job, team.]

You're pretty good at this.

[She's a little red in the face from exertion, but she's beaming happily. That was a challenge.]

So are you! I'm really impressed. We should do this more often.

If you're that fond of it, maybe I wouldn't mind.

[It was a good challenge anyway, and Krauser does enjoy challenges, especially physical ones. He's not smiling, but it's serious.

He's still sort of bothered by Nachetanya's... everything, but he likes Rin well enough and surely that sort of crazy couldn't happen twice...]

Come on, you liked it too, right? You can't have agreed just to entertain me.

[And he had been standing there for a while too.]

I was curious, that's all.

[he doesn't have fun, rin gosh]

[Well then we need to fix that]

That makes you the buffest cat I've ever seen, but that would explain the reflexes.

I was a soldier for years; it's only natural that my reflexes are this good.

[He sounds pleased enough, anyway...?]

[She notices the past tense. Did his memories prove the profile right after all, then? Rin doesn't ask for now.]

Then I bet you'll do even better the next time we try it. How long do you think it would take for us to master this song? I'd love to get a higher ranking. It looked like we hit somewhere in the middle this time, with our score.

I'd imagine it'd take a lot of practice. That's the only way to get better at something like this.

It's either going to be early in the morning or late at night. I don't want any of the others seeing this.

[It's kind of embarrassing how much he enjoyed that. Excuse me, "found that interesting" because Krauser doesn't have fun.]
