Week 5.

WEEK 5 Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here. Is yours? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember... It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet. PATIENTS REMAINING: 22

[A stubborn lie, but in her eyes, she has no reason to allow herself that]

... Really, I should be relieved. [She tries to keep her voice light as she stares at the water again]

If everything goes as it should, I won't... be in pain anymore.

That.... doesn't sound like a good thing, exactly. When you put it that way.

It's fine, considering the alternatives.

[She kicks her feet and watches the ripples grow]

... Maybe it's not how I expected everything to turn out, but it will be fitting. I've already been so lucky, I think.

Senpai has treated me like family. Nii-san... [a pause] -- he does his best. Fujimura-sensei always praises my cooking, and being apart of the archery club is fun...

[ossifragant]

[He listens carefully.]

Maybe it's possible for things to change. After all, people being here for as long as we have... changes things.

I probably won't be returning home.

[ossifragant]

[He smiles sadly.]

You and me both, kiddo.

[A-ah... so that's why... it feels like he knew.]

... I'm sorry, Greed-san.

[He moves to put a hand on her shoulder.]

We're here right now, at this moment. That's what's important.

[imaginex]

[It's what she wants to believe. It just... doesn't feel like it.

But she tries to smile at the hand on her shoulder, to keep it together. Even though her eyes are dry, Sakura rubs them and takes a deep breath.]

Don't tell Tohsaka-senpai, please.

[it's not that the girl doesn't already know what Sakura thinks, but she doesn't need to hear Sakura is dead set on this outcome.]

[....ah]

I won't say anything to her, you don't have to worry.

[they'll both take it to the grave. So... why not?

[He gives her a sad smile.]

It's always those closest to us who hurt us the most. Even accidentally.

[She almost laughs. Greed is right and he's wrong about that "accidental" part, and for the first time since she got to the pool, she feels like crying.

She pulls her legs out of the water and buries her face into her knees instead]

As long as she can go home...

[She doesn't care how much it hurts]

[He doesn't know what to do, but he does eventually lay a hand on her shoulder.]

...Even if it's not possible for you to go home, that doesn't mean it's not possible to find a new home.

... A new home?

[That makes her look up; it's obvious from the surprise on her face, she never considered that an option]

[ossifragant]

We were brought here, weren't we? It must be possible, if that's possible, for us to find a new world. Maybe one of the worlds of the people here, if it doesn't sound terrible.

[imaginex]

I don't think I--

[deserve it]

... No, you're right. For anyone who can't go home, it's a good option. Maybe Transmitter-san could make that happen.

[ossifragant]

[He watches her carefully, like he's not sure what to say.]

Maybe. She got us in the first place, somehow.

[imaginex]

... I know she'd agree, if she could. Transmitter-san is kind.

[ossifragant]

Heck, the Risen seem like bad news.

I'd take her with me, if I could.

[imaginex]

[A look of brief amusement]

Are you sure Ryoji-san wouldn't object to that?

[ossifragant]

Nah.

[He smiles.]

Because I'll probably ask Ryoji to tag along as well.

[imaginex]

Oh? He doesn't have a world to...?

[A pause, and then Sakura clamps her teeth over her bottom lip. She's probably overthinking this, but--]

R-right. It's not a problem if it's all three of you.

[ossifragant]

I don't know about that, but... you know. She's his girlfriend.

[He doesn't want to say so, but he has a feeling she's right.]
