Week 5.

WEEK 5 Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here. Is yours? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember... It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet. PATIENTS REMAINING: 22

[So you're saying teenagers can't help themselves? Because a teenager is trying to help herself.]

[ossifragant]

[Look, if you want to get wasted, be his guest! He won't stop you. But he probably will stop her just the same.]

You looking for anything in particular?

[It's not like he'll stop her if she really wants to do this herself, but this is one of those things he's knowledgeable about that isn't horrific in some way.]

[heritrix]

[This is why you're her favorite, Greed. Also Rin wasn't trying to be sneaky, at least, so she's pretty amiable seeing him.]

A good nightcap. I was feeling like brandy.

[ossifragant]

Sounds like you've got some tastes.

[So he's going to mix it up for her.]

A good drink does a lot to soothe the soul.

[heritrix]

[She'll take a seat then! She was just going to go back to her room, but since it's Greed she'll hang around and watch him as he mixes it.]

Your profile said you're a bar owner, right?

[ossifragant]

Yeah, that's right. I think it's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's not really a lie.

[heritrix]

What, is the bar a front for a secret workshop?

[ossifragant]

[That makes him snort.]

You're not far off. It's more of a hide away. The sort of place a guy on the run can duck into without anyone asking him questions.

[heritrix]

[She's not overly surprised it's a front for something else, but it coming down to that is interesting.]

That's too extensive to be a hobby. [She leans back, speaking thoughtfully.] A homunculus helping people on the run... How did you come to such a place in your life, that that's how you'd choose to spend it?

[ossifragant]

Because that's what happened to me.

I broke out of a prison I'd been sealed in for... one hundred thirty years, I'm pretty sure. Still not sure how that happened, but the array holding me must have cracked.

So I help others trying to lay low.

[heritrix]

One hundred—

[Too loud; she clamps her mouth down to contain her outburst. It's just so long. Rin knows he's long-lived, but that's still a third of his life. It's an awful thing to imagine, what his life must have been like.]

Why were you put there?

[ossifragant]

Because I didn't want to obey "her."

[He's quiet for a while.]

She'd killed one of my fellow homunculi-- killed her for failing a mission, but it was my fault. So really, she was killed because of me.

I decided after that I was going to make a break for it, but I got found out and shoved into a prison.

[heritrix]

...is this the same woman you told me about before? The one who wears the perfume.

[ossifragant]

Yeah. That's right.

[heritrix]

[The homunculi of Greed's world certainly are different from the ones Rin knows. Or... She frowns, as another thought occurs to her. Maybe not so much. But this only makes her frown deepen, as she regards him. Since knowing Greed, she's come to see homunculi a bit differently.]

Like that woman, the Einzbern family of my world treat their homunculi as tools; if one was faulty or no longer of use it would be disposed of. And yet she killed your comrade, but not you even after you betrayed her.

[A pause. Then:] Among homunculi of your world, you must be unique if she chose to imprison you.

[ossifragant]

[He visibly hesitates, not out of hiding something, but clearly because the horror at the idea has gotten to him. He can't quite mask his expression in time.]

Maybe. I think it's more likely because she knew the greatest punishment of all for me would be to make sure there's nothing I can do about my situation.

[heritrix]

[They've talked about a lot of morbid shit before, but she doesn't think she's seen Greed genuinely disturbed by any of it until this moment.]

Hey, I didn't mean to unsettle you.

[Concern in her eyes, she reaches across the bar, as if to brush her fingers against the back of his hand. They're a bit of a distance apart though, so she doesn't quite reach or try more than that, but it's clearly meant to be a comforting gesture.]

We can change the subject.

[ossifragant]

[He smiles at the gesture and relaxes.]

Why don't you tell me a bit about what you do in your downtime as a mage?

[heritrix]

[She seems to think about that thoughtfully for a few moments, when really she's studying Greed, and that he's really relaxed before beginning.]

To be honest with you? Seven times out of ten, I'll continue my magic studies into the night. That's always given me joy.

But if you're specifically asking about other things? I have homework for school, and I also like going out for a little fun. Window shopping or some kind of exercise. Things like that.

[ossifragant]

Hmm, sounds nice. Homunculi can't use alchemy ourselves, otherwise I'd probably do something similar.

Though sometimes just putting all of that aside for a while is needed.
