Week 5.

WEEK 5 Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here. Is yours? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember... It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet. PATIENTS REMAINING: 22

It's been ten years. I wish he were still by my side, of course, but I moved on as he would have wanted me to a long time ago.

[Which may sound harsh, but Rin's features reflect no such intensity.]

[Osomatsu certainly doesn't judge her for moving on, especially when it happened so long ago. still, he found it nice that he could learn a bit more about her]

I'm sure he'd be very proud of the young woman you've become, Tohsaka-san.

[Oh that— Rin's eyes widen, cheeks coloring. It only means so much coming from Osomatsu, who never knew her father, but it's a high praise regardless.]

[It cuts right to the bone too, prompting some sincere reflection. It's not doubt, it's just... She can acknowledge it. She's made mistakes; wasted the inheritance he left for her, her most powerful trump card drained in an instant. Charing in to challenge Caster cost her badly. And to top it all off, she ended up in a place like this. Somewhere between all of that, she lost a piece of their Magic Crest, the most precious possession he entrusted to her.]

[But she's come this far, and she doesn't intend to lose. Not here, or back home. She's done everything by her best judgement, to uphold the pride of their family, not just to meet his expectations but to surpass them.

Osomatsu's words might be sappy, but Rin accepts them with all the joy of a child who's been told they've done well. Holding the figurine close to her heart, she beams with pride.]

Of course! He'll tell me himself, someday.

[...he really wants to pet her head. would that be acceptable? he loves giving people headpats. but, for some reason, Rin seems too dignified for that, so... he holds himself back, but he grins all the same]

[As adorable as that would be, don't push it, buddy. Rin would be so embarrassed she might die on the spot.]

I should get back to my room, but I originally stopped in to check on you. Are you holding up okay?

[She knows that had to be one of his brothers among the hostages.]

[ah... she came to check on him... how nice of her]

I'm... better. [he nods] I mean, I'm not gonna run off an' kill anyone, if that's what you're worried about.

And no volunteering to act as a sacrificial lamb either, right?

[he shakes his head] Nope! I plan on staying in my room and not leaving until morning!

[heritrix]

Good. [No smile; she just nods seriously, in approval.] One way or another, this will work out.

[but for who? for all of them? so many people had already died... yet, for some reason, Osomatsu was still around. how was that possible?]

...Yeah. Just take one day at a time.

[...not all of them, no. Believe it or not, Rin has never considered herself an optimist.]

...isn't it crazy? To think of how many days we've been here already. [She makes a light chuffing sound.] I've known you and the other patients longer than I have those two in the tank...

[Osomatsu blinks at her words]

Two in the tank?

Sorry. I meant the hostages.

[It's not really a tank, but that's how she sees the room they're all trapped in.]

Oh... [wow. that really was interesting. he rubs his chin. Osomatsu figured the Risen would be better with their choices, but... he didn't know, really] Wonder why they went with who they did.

[heritrix]

[She snorts a little, privately amused.] There couldn't be anyone else.

he gives her a confused look, but otherwise doesn't push the topic. Rin must have been vague for a reason]

In any case, you take care too, okay? Don't leave your room if ya don't have to.

Yes, yes, Uncle Matsuno. I'll be tucked away by curfew.

[he chuckles! even though she was most likely being facetious, he still approved of the nickname]
