Week 3.

WEEK 3 Grace and Doug are dead. It seems that there isn't anything more to do but mourn your losses and try to move forward. The Transmitter's rules still hang in every room, a reminder of the only means of escaping this place. But surely no one else will give into them, right? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Once again, however, it seems your efforts won't go unrewarded; another set of corridors have opened up, much in the same fashion as the other new area did last week. With them come new rooms to explore; maybe some of them will be to your liking. Or perhaps it's better to say that hopefully some of them will; after all, if the Transmitter gets her way, you may be here for a very, very long time. PATIENTS REMAINING: 26

[Though it doesn't have his usual teasing lilt to it as he gives Kogami a once over.]

I see that you found another carton of cigarettes to get by with here?

[That's noted, definitely. Then again, they had a pretty heavy talk...]

I did.

[A beat.]

What about you? Are you taking care of yourself?

About as well as one can here.

[So that's a yes... kind of... maybe?]

[carnivorously]

[It's weird seeing him without his usual spunk.]

Mind if I come in?

[doctorize]

[The look he gets is a little wary, though that might just be because of Danny's... uh. Episode, yesterday.

But otherwise...]

Sure. Make yourself at home.

[He steps back, leaves the door open for him to come in.]

[carnivorously]

[He understands the wariness. It's what has Kogami really confused about people here and why they like him despite the fact he was a massive liability last week.]

[So he comes in and sits on his bed.

Now that we have our days in order, Kogami lights up a cigarette from what looks like a new pack-- maybe one or two just smoked. After that, he holds his pack out to Danny if he would like one. If he had alcohol he'd offer that, but cigarettes are all the man has to offer.]

... You don't mind letting me take one?

[He's actually kind of surprised by the gesture, considering how important they are to Kogami.]

No. I don't mind.

[It's a really rare gesture since these are like gold to Kogami. But he's gotten them twice so far, he knows he'll get what he needs. And he's reached out to others to get his cigarettes to him if they show up. It's not a big deal-- especially now that he's coping with withdrawals a bit better now.]

I figured one may help clear your mind some.

I see... thank you, then.

[Danny will take one then. He would prefer a drink honestly, but this is good too.]

[He wouldn't be offended if he rejected Kogami's offer, but he figured it was at least a nice gesture. Maybe one day they could have a drink together because holy shit, alcohol has sounded nice more than once here.]

[He'll get his match book out too, ready to light a match for Danny when and if he's ready to smoke.]

[... And we're both not going to think about it too hard having Kogami light Danny's match for him, I'm sure.

It's been a while since Danny last gave into the temptation of smoking, but thankfully he doesn't cough or choke here as he props the door open a little to let the smoke vent out.]

Honestly, Kogami's watching the other man if he does end up coughing or choking, and when he doesn't, well... it seems he was right to offer Danny one.]

Sorry, I should have thought before stinking up your room.

[When it comes to smoking, Kogami is not considerate in the least, unfortunately.]

In any case, I came to keep you company and making sure you're not wallowing in some despair that could harm us all, ultimately.

[Translation: I actually care, so here I am.]

[He gives Kogami a look at that comment, but--]

I'm not planning on killing anyone here right now if that's what you're worried about: that would just be giving them the satisfaction more so than getting anything out of it for myself.

[There's a single snicker that comes from Kogami.]

I figured that would be the case, however, I wanted to make sure that despair didn't swallow you, or something like that.

[Ugh, how the fuck does he do feelings?]

In other words, despite the fact we've barely met I think I can say, with confidence, that I'm here for you.

[... how the fuck do you do feelings because Danny sure doesn't know how and he somehow knows even less after hearing that]

... Were you worried that I was going to do something else instead?

[Kogami can probably guess what he means by "something else" other than killing someone here.]

Perhaps.

[Maybe if he were being honest with himself. ]

I'm already someone who has dealt with the pain of loss and I'd be rather not experience it again.

[A lot of people in Danny's world would disagree with that and think he's doing everyone a favor if he did "something else" instead.]

You would consider it a loss? As you've said, "we've barely met" and all.

[Not that he was actually considering it, but he's now interested in the fact that Kogami would be bothered by it.]

[Maybe he's crossing a boundary he shouldn't. With a sigh, he takes a drag of his cigarette.]

Take it as you will, I suppose.

[He would be bothered by it, but he wonders if he should actually admit that more than he already has.]

[He could just leave it at that, but...]

Why? I mean, you seem to have managed well enough over the past two weeks of losses we've already had here.

[Dammit Danny... He looks away for a bit, getting another drag of his cigarette to keep silent for a moment and just think how to explain this.]

I... didn't exactly get to know them. Arietta I spoke with once, otherwise I never spoke with the others, really.

[A beat.]

You...

[Fuck...]

...It's different. Maybe I was reading into things and thought that maybe you slightly cared. Though more than likely you were just trying to make sure a murder wouldn't happen.

My, that's a little cold of you to suggest it like that, but...

... Kogami, are you trying to say that you like me?

[his tone is teasing, but there's definitely a note of curiousity in his words, too]

[His cigarette is against his lips, but he's not taking a drag of it this time. He's a pretty emotional person, however, expressing said emotions are tough. They're usually hidden behind a stoic expression.

This is one time where it's tough. He's not sure how to describe it. Psychologically, it shouldn't be possible to get this attached to a person so quickly, but he can't deny he found himself attached to Tsunemori pretty quickly too when she took interest in him.

Maybe that's what it boiled down to. Two people unwanted by society-- or maybe he's reading into it again.

So after all that thought and silence, there's only one word.]

Maybe.

[Good job, Kogami, good job.]

[doctorize]

[Danny kind of stares at that, before he then laughs.]

"Maybe", huh...

[Danny takes a drag of his own cigarette for a moment, before he speaks again.]

We've barely met, but... I like you too.

[He puts his cigarette out against his desk here (maybe he should start keeping an ash tray or something in here given the amount of times Kogami has stopped by, honestly) before he sits down on his bed next to Kogami. Not too close to be touching him, but close enough that either one of them could if they wanted to.]

I'm not going to do anything desperate here... so don't worry so much, alright?

[Is there relief hearing that? He doesn't know. However, it's nice to hear it, nonetheless. And there's no denying he appreciates how he's coming closer to him. Tsunemori was always close, too. Always close...

...he may be a hound dog, but he still needs the support of a master, because if he goes blindly on his own, it will likely lead to a path of destruction.]

Did it seem like I was worried?

[Dumbass question, of course it did. He's just trying to lighten whatever mood just came in this room that's kind of awkward now. It's not bad, but just a little awkward.]

It did, but I don't mind so much. It's nice.

["We're not used to people caring about us like that" isn't said, but it sure is implied.]
