Week 5.

WEEK 5 Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here. Is yours? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember... It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet. PATIENTS REMAINING: 22

[ George is outside way less than usually today. Normally, you'd hardly see him in his room, he's always to be found somewhere around the public areas, keeping busy with one thing or another or simply observing.

Today, George is scarce. For almost the entire day there is only the closed door for room 28 that reminds people of his existence. Feel free to knock though, he won't ignore you.

It's only in the late afternoon that you can find George in the shooting range, distractedly firing crossbow arrows at the targets. Nothing really hits as it should and he storms off in anger after only half an hour.

The second time he surfaces is late at night, when he sneaks back to the media room and gloomily stares at his video looping. He also gives some curious glances to the other videos now that he has calmed down a little. ]

[Day and night have no meaning to Kogami. Probably a dangerous thing now with this motive, but he's got a weapon on him just in case someone decides to strike. With it being late, he decides to try for the media room just to see if he can attempt to communicate or mess with the video and figure out the source.

He's a little surprised to see someone else in here, but perhaps not. He hadn't really seen George around all day. That doesn't stop him from sitting at a computer and promptly messing with the keyboard, attempting to put in prompts he knows to no avail.]

Seems like they got a motive to mess with all of us for once.

[He speaks outloud, if only to not make it awkward that he's in the same room as George without acknowledging him.]

[ George is flimsily armed as well, a knife visible on the table right next to his hand. It's not the most effective self-defense, but at least he doesn't need to berate himself for not... trying?

George turns away from his monitor to glance over at Kogami and whatever he's even doing there. ]

... anyone who was surprised by this has been astoundingly naive this far.

[ He grimaces. ]

As it turns out, being prepared doesn't make it any less conflicting.

I'll admit, it surprised me for a moment, but then I realized this is the game we're in.

[He clacks at the keyboard some more, as if still attempting to put in anything. Something that may be a prompt to run a program. Honestly, he's not hacking-- he doesn't have that skill.

Just, he can't sit in his room and do nothing.

Not when Tsunemori is in possible danger.]

I don't like this situation at all, but at least we have a failsafe in case we can't figure out how to rescue them before Friday.

[He can't promise he won't act on it, for once. Tsunemori deserves to live.]

Just find two volunteers and voilá, there we go. Damage control.

[ The comment is obviously sarcastic, but it tastes sour on his tongue that this sounds like the favourable option now as opposed to another random murder. ]

Too bad it would be as good as giving ourselves up and resigning to merely 'making the best out of it'.

[He has no doubt many people have started concocting a murder plan. That's going to make this Friday rough-- and the trial after even more terrible if they can't do something about the captives.]

I'd like to say 'let's hope we don't get to that point', however it's been made clear that we really can't go beyond the areas opened to us. Though if we just tried somehow...

[His voice is determined, but at the same time, it's not really optimistic. He knows this is something with a very limited success rate.]

... we've 'just tried' every week before as well.

Though I concede that this time around people are certainly more desperately determined.

[ Yay? ]

Any concrete ideas though?

If trying is parties and trust exercises, then yes, I'll say that we've been 'trying'.

[Not to murder each other, that is...]

I don't have any ideas at the moment, however.

[ That... notably strikes a nerve with George. Like, he literally flinches a little. ]

We thought we'd all been on the same page with this 'try' anyway.

[ You know, back when he thought Nachetanya was a good leader with a good idea to keep people together.... He'd been so stupid. All of them had. ]

And we've tried other things, too, in looking around here. It just so happens none of them were working.

[she kind of has a working theory. "the person most obsessed with these tapes will be the one to snap and murder everybody this week." so her insomnia has her checking in every once in a while. keeping a list.]

It doesn't make them any less fucked the more you watch it.

[ Well, George does have a knife on the computer table, but that is for self-defense. ]

I think I was just starting to get to that conclusion, thank you for speeding up the process.

Easy, Ziggy Stardust. Just pointing out that sitting here all gloomy and shit isn't super great for your mental health.

Besides, they can do crazy shit with CGI these days. I think I saw Asgore's fat wife clip through a table.

CGI, brainwashing, alternate universes... at this point there are a million ways this could be fake and none to make sure.

[ He shrugs. ]

Now we wait and see who can take chances.

Personally, I wouldn't lift a finger if they had my fucking mother in there. [... actually that be way better at least she wouldn't have to worry about hippies murdering her.] But other people probably, like. Care about other people for some reason.

It's an impractical affliction that one should seek to avoid.

We can't all be fortunate enough to have a shitty birth family though.

Not everyone can be so blessed.

[glances over his shoulder] So. Who's your hostage?

My older sister.

[ The family resemblance between him and the woman on the screen is probably obvious, even though she prefers... a more modest way of dressing. ]

At least they left her kids at home.

[ If he thought there was any way the Risen didn't know of the children yet, he'd never say this, but those chances seem veeeery slim. ]

[ Might as well keep up his trend of wandering around late at night. Ryoji will stroll in and while he stills looks off, he's no longer actively avoiding others. Partially, at least. ]

Are you looking for someone else?

[ Turns out the media room is shockingly crowded at night.... ]

Quite the opposite actually, I was hoping to get another glance of these videos in peace and quiet.

What are you doing here?

I wanted to see how he was doing. [ It feels wrong to lie about him. ]

Same way as this morning, given the eternal loop of the videos.

Who is your hostage?

Makoto. [ There's a softness in his voice when he says the name, George has heard it before when he's talked about the Transmitter. Ryoji points to a young dark-haired boy, with headphones around his neck. The boy looks resolute and quiet, though he pauses every so often to speak to some of the other hostages (if only briefly), appearing to offer them some sort of reassurance. ]

He's my...best friend.

[georgeous]

[ Ryoji's girlfriend's boss is ordering Ryoji to kill for his best friend. Maybe that actually adds yet another layer of awful to this situation. Maybe. ]

They really did their research on this one. We can just hope all these people are looking out for each other down there. [ The cheer in his voice is certainly fake. ]

Well she has access to our memories...

[ This incentive is just the cherry on top of an awful week. ]

More of them than we do in any case...

[ He looks back at his own hostage on the screen. ]

Would they even let all of them go if we all died due to this week's murder? Seems unlikely and we'd never be any the wiser - being dead.
