Week 5.

WEEK 5 Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here. Is yours? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember... It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet. PATIENTS REMAINING: 22

[She does speak up again as they go, but her voice is low and she's still looking towards the floor.]

Rin... Do you think the dreams we have on Sundays are really memories? I asked the Transmitter and she said they most likely were, but she couldn't be entirely certain.

[heritrix]

She said that, huh? That's a strange response...

[Rin mutters this as she walks.]

I'm 100% certain they're memories myself. Mine are... To put it simply, they're too detailed to be falsified, and explain one or two things for me that felt off when we first woke up here.

[barehands]

She said she was almost completely positive, but there are always exceptions. I think that's how she put it.

[She gives an uncertain nod.]

It makes sense, but...

[It's not something she want to believe.]

[heritrix]

Sometimes the strangest explanations are the only ones that make sense. I don't know what you saw, or why it spooked you, but you shouldn't be afraid of it.

[barehands]

...Why do you say that?

[That she shouldn't be afraid, that is.]

[heritrix]

Whatever it was already happened. It's a part of you now; you shouldn't be afraid of yourself.

[barehands]

...It isn't myself I'm afraid of.

[But she doesn't elaborate more, shaking her head quickly.]

Sorry.

[heritrix]

I know. [A smile.] I was trying to be poetic.

[She says it like a joke, to make her laugh, but she does hope it sticks with her. Memories shape the person, one way or another.]

[barehands]

[It might not earn a laugh, but she does give a nod, looking forward.]

...Sorry. I hope I didn't worry you. Y-You're right.

[heritrix]

If you do want to talk later, there are people here, you know? I'm not the best person for those things, but I can think of several who would hear you out.

[barehands]

I know. Everyone here is...

[A pause.]

Most people here are really nice. But - I don't think it's something I want to talk about.

[heritrix]

[Rin hums.] I can relate to that.

[barehands]

Yeah... I-I've kind of noticed you don't like to talk about personal stuff, either.

But if you ever did want to, um, I'd be glad to listen.

[heritrix]

You can ask me anything you'd like now. I couldn't tell you before because I was looking out for your safety, but the cat's out of the bag.

[barehands]

Not necessarily about things that happened, but... how you feel.

[A beat.]

You've seemed really strong throughout this whole thing, but it has to bother even someone as brave as you, right?

[heritrix]

...I don't like it, if that's what you're asking. Honestly, it sickens me.

[barehands]

I know you don't like it. That is... I know you're the kind of person who definitely wouldn't enjoy something like this. But even saying it plainly like that, you sound really calm. If it makes you angry or nervous or anything, you can talk to me about it.

Does that make sense?

[heritrix]

[It does.]

Believe it or not, Rose, I've always been that way. [Rin speaks in a friendly tone.] I have a bad temper, and I blow my top over the smallest things, but my anger runs cold when a problem is serious.

I don't get worked up over what I have no control over. I'm so dispassionate, sometimes I even frustrate myself.

[barehands]

...I didn't mean to say it's frustrating. A-Actually, I didn't mean to criticize you at all, I promise. All I meant is that, um, if you ever feel less dispassionate - you can always talk to me about it.

[heritrix]

I'll consider that, thank you.

[...]

Similarly if you need to talk about something scary, you can rely on me. They have to have given me a title "Courageous" for a reason, no? If not to share it, then I don't know what.

[barehands]

...I hope it doesn't seem hypocritical after all that, but it's not really something I want to talk about. W-With anyone, not just with you.

[After that, though, she moves on quickly.]

But you'd be the first one I'd go to if there was ever something scary I needed help with. Promise.

[heritrix]

Okay.

[Rin doesn't look offended, only understanding. She stops, as they reach Rose's door.]

Here's our stop.

[barehands]

...It's kind of gross inside, so I'll be back in a second, okay?

[heritrix]

[Gross, huh. Rin feels like she should offer to get Rose a glass of water too, or something.]

I'll wait here.

[Rin moves to set the bucket down on the ground, and flex her fingers a bit. Quite heavy and whatnot.

When Rose disappears into her room, however, she might look in a crack. But whatever she sees, she won't comment on. Unless it's like a dead body or something, but this is Sunday.]

[barehands]

Thank you.

[You caught her, it's definitely a dead body— wait, no.

Once she takes the cleaning supplies and heads in, if Rin peeks in pretty far, it just looks like she emptied last night's dinner onto the floor at some point. Gross indeed.]
