Week 5.

WEEK 5 Another week has passed; another two people have died. Tsubasa Hanekawa and Nachetanya Loei Piena Augustra have joined the ranks of the deceased. Whatever you may have thought about them in the end, one thing hovers heavy over the group: the fact that neither their compassion nor their ambition was enough to keep them alive in here. Is yours? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; the static blares out early on Sunday, but at least there are no bodies to find today - it seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... And of course, with another successful trial comes a new addition to the building, another corridor opening up on the west side of the building. The doors leading to it branch off of the hallways leading to the second and fourth sections of the building; have those doors always been there? You can't remember... It's a new week. Of course, that means you've been here for over a month, and your stay doesn't seem to be coming to a close yet. PATIENTS REMAINING: 22

[Osomatsu looks up from his inventory, smiling at Rin excitedly. he sure seems to be better than he was when they last spoke. could also be he's overcompensating]

Yo! [he's already up, so he moves over to the bed to grab the plush. then he walks over to her] It's cute, right? An' check this out! [he unzips the zipper on the head, revealing the mass of plush tentacles. then makes monster noises and wiggles it at her.

[Cute??? No, she's got this.]

I had one, too. I just thought it was amusing, until it wandered off on its own in the middle of the night...

[........Osomatsu lowers the toy]

Nuh uh... [is she lying? she must be! like she did that one time with his clothes. fool me once, shame on me!]

[heritrix]

It did! Right in the middle of the night, I noticed eyes shining like a cat's from inside the mouth. But then it scurried off into the bathroom! [She shudders, as if recalling the sight.] I caught up to it just as it was escaping through the vent...

[Osomatsu should probably be focused on her story, but what he zeroes in on is]

Hey! The vent! We should try escaping through that!

[Rude...]

I don't think even Rose would fit in that...

Aren't there bigger ones? Like in the kitchen? [he tosses the toy back onto his bed, then walks into the room and leans against the desk] Even if one person could get out, they could go get help.

Not for a person. Even if someone could get through, they'd get electrocuted I bet.

Maybe—No, no. I wouldn't even risk Wheatley at this—

[heritrix]

[Well wherever she was going about that, Rin freezes abruptly mid-word with a look of shock, having tracked Osomatsu's movement to the desk.]

[oh, right. getting electrocuted is a thing here! Osomatsu heard that at the meeting...

but, hm? why'd Rin suddenly cut off her sentence? he looks at her, tilting his head]

Tohsaka-san?

[heritrix]

That... [Her eyes are as soft as her voice, trained on the horse figurine sitting on his desk.] Did that come from the vending machine?

[relieable]

Huh? [he follows her line of sight. the horse!]

Oh, yeah! I just got it today. [he gingerly picks it up, then offers it to her] Have you, uh... Seen it before?

[heritrix]

It's one of a kind. I would recognize it anywhere.

[Rin takes the horse into her hands; cupping it, instead of holding it by the hooves to minimize smudges. But it doesn't look like that matters; the crystal continues to shine beautifully. Rin regards it tenderly, like a well-loved photograph. It's obvious from that and her previous behavior that whatever this object is, it's precious.]

My father made it.

[relieable]

[oh........... Osomatsu drops his shoulders, looking at the horse, then back up to Rin. it's hers. he got something that belonged to her out of the vending machine]

...You'd better hang onto it, then.

[heritrix]

[She laughs. It goes without saying that she will.]

Thank you for giving it back to me. [He didn't have to.] It means a lot.

[ah? why is she laughing? is she really that happy about it?]

Yeah, sure. It's a bit too fancy for me, anyway. [he gives her a grin] So your father makes glass animals?

[heritrix]

[She shakes her head.]

No. He made this many years ago. I was practicing magecraft on my own, and botched growing the crystal. Father [and it may be notable here, as they're both Japanese speakers, that Rin is referring to him as otou-sama] demonstrated the proper technique.

[Rin sets The horse back down on the desk for a minute, splaying her hands around it as if shaping the crystal by thought. This wasn't made with a chisel, or careful tools.]

It was amazing watching him work. I could have stood there, transfixed for hours, but in hindsight it was generously twenty minutes.

[ah, he made it with magic. of course! Osomatsu seems like he finds that enchanting. imagine, being able to change the shape of something. that sounds fun!]

Twenty minutes? Must've taken a lot of concentration. [he notes how she addresses her father, but doesn't comment on it]

Both more and less than you think. Manipulating matter is one of the first things I was taught, so it's become engrained in me. But I've never been able to create anything like this.

[Fondly, she takes the figurine back into her hands again, admiring the details of how it was sculpted.] Father was so skilled.

[Was being the key term.]

[was, huh?]

...What happened to him? [is it all right to ask that?]

[heritrix]

[Only a little does her expression change, with her smile falling, but the question doesn't upset her. It was a long time ago.]

He was killed, while participating in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

[he was killed in a war? Osomatsu wonders if that's another magic thing]

Ah, sorry. [he'll just offer his condolences]

It's been ten years. I wish he were still by my side, of course, but I moved on as he would have wanted me to a long time ago.

[Which may sound harsh, but Rin's features reflect no such intensity.]

[Osomatsu certainly doesn't judge her for moving on, especially when it happened so long ago. still, he found it nice that he could learn a bit more about her]

I'm sure he'd be very proud of the young woman you've become, Tohsaka-san.

[ah, that sounded sappy!]

[Oh that— Rin's eyes widen, cheeks coloring. It only means so much coming from Osomatsu, who never knew her father, but it's a high praise regardless.]
