WEEK 2 With the deaths of Sayaka Maizono and Mallick Scott the first week draws to a close. While you all have varying opinions on what happened and who was to blame, one thing's for sure: the Adjudicator isn't messing around. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... However, those weird dreams aren't the only new thing around here; those massive double doors on the southern wall of the foyer have opened up, leading down another hallway and ending in what looks like another corridor to the west. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; consider it your reward for a job well done. Or perhaps for just playing the game. COMPETITORS REMAINING: 28

Look, I can believe someone being able to reach out to other worlds. There's enough folklore about it back home...

[Usually about a god doing it.]

[She clears her throat, and continues hastily--]

But I'm not about to take that as proof that he can do anything.

Messing with timelines isn't as hard as you'd think, not initially anyway.

[oasisrose]

[She's taken aback.]

Wait... you mean you've actually heard of such a thing?

[hentopan]

I've done such a thing. [ A lot of times, which probably explains why he's insane but, details.]

[oasisrose]

You've what?!

-- okay, no. Now you're the one who's bluffing, right?!

[hentopan]

Keheheheh. I may be a lot of things, but I'm not a liar.

[oasisrose]

Well, it sounds like a load. If you did it, then how? And why?

[hentopan]

[ He sighs.] Even if I explained it, do you honestly think you'd understand it?

Why though-- [ He grins.] because there's only one outcome that works for me, and timelines are finicky.

[oasisrose]

[She scowls. Did he just imply that she's stupid?]

Why wouldn't I understand it? How hard could it be?

[The second part she leaves be for now. She still feels like he must be pulling her leg, which would mean that answer is just him trying to ham it up.]

[hentopan]

News to me that dancers understand quantum physics, magic, alchemy, and chemistry. Go on then, if you know so much-- what's a continuum shift? [ Crossing his arms, the same cocky smile still on his face.]

[... uh.]

[Her face starts turning red with an embarrassment. Of course she doesn't understand any of those. In fact, she's one of a dwindling people from her world who has no meaningful aptitude for proper magic. The most she could ever do was ask Althena's power for assistance, and even then it took some help.]

[But she's not going to shut her mouth and let him make her into a fool. ... so instead, she'll open her mouth and prove it.]

W-well... it sounds like when something is happening, continuously... and then it changes and does something else.

[ In truth no one understands BB time line shenanigans, so she really shouldn't feel all that bad. Too bad he doesn't plan to let her live it down though.]

Wrong! Man I almost want to give you some credit for just how flustered you look.

A continuum shift is when all outcomes and phenomena converge on one another until the dominant one is chosen as the sequential path.

[What did he just say? Were those even words??]

Oh, come on! Of course I'm not going to understand if you're going to wring every word out of your thesaurus to explain it!

[ He sighs, long and drawn out.]

See this is why I didn't want to tell you in the first place.

Messing with time isn't for everyone, got that? That's all you need to know.

[She's not sure how much she believes that sigh. Because it occurs to her then oh, right, this is the guy who was goading other people into fights during the trial.]

I think I'd like to know if people are messing with time! Especially if it's time that I'm inside of!

[hentopan]

You wouldn't even notice, or if you did it would be subtle. You've heard of deja vu, right?

[oasisrose]

Naturally, yes. I've even gotten it a few times.

[... she sees where he's going with this. But she doesn't want to see it.]

[hentopan]

Depending how close to the phenomena you are, the stronger the feeling is.

[oasisrose]

That's...

[Someone has been messing with her time?! The thought is unsettling.]

That's absurd, though! Everyone gets deja vu! You can't mean to say that there's always someone messing with time!

[hentopan]

Maybe.

Can't say I know exactly how your universe functions, but that's how it is mine. [ Small comforts?]

[oasisrose]

My...? That's right. The multiverse theory that William was talking about...

[She grits her teeth.]

Do you know about the different universes, then?

[hentopan]

Different timelines and continuities are more my thing. [ Read: no.

But he can't say he's all that surprised either.]

[oasisrose]

[Darn it.]

I might still have some questions to ask you later.

If you're willing to answer using words I can understand.

[hentopan]

[ He grins.]

I'm not dumbing it down anymore than I would for my vessels. [ But the fact that she's so bold means he actually would bother to answer in the first place.]

Your vessels?

You, um, didn't mean to say something like vassals, did you? [She'd rather believe he's some kind of lord than what he just implied.]
