Week 2.

WEEK 2 With the deaths of Sayaka Maizono and Mallick Scott the first week draws to a close. While you all have varying opinions on what happened and who was to blame, one thing's for sure: the Adjudicator isn't messing around. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... However, those weird dreams aren't the only new thing around here; those massive double doors on the southern wall of the foyer have opened up, leading down another hallway and ending in what looks like another corridor to the west. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; consider it your reward for a job well done. Or perhaps for just playing the game. COMPETITORS REMAINING: 28

I'm surprised more people here aren't! It's pretty common back home!

[oasisrose]

It is? It's quite rare where I come from...

Where is your home, anyway? [While he answers, she lowers the sandwich and takes a bite.]

A place called Hoenn. I'm from the same world as Cilan and AZ, but none of us are from the same region. Cilan's from Unova, that's way off across the ocean, and AZ is from Kalos. He says he passed through Hoenn a long time ago, sounds like he just kinda goes wherever the wind takes him.

[oasisrose]

All three of you... that's so strange. Somehow, I had the impression that we had each been pulled from different worlds...

[Or maybe that was something she convinced herself of, to feel less marooned.]

If that's the case, does that mean you know about those creatures Cilan was talking about? [A beat, as recalls the name.] ... the Pokemon?

[rainofterror]

Sure! We're both Pokemon trainers!

[oasisrose]

Oh. The kind that battle them, right?

[Her expression doesn't exactly light up. Even though Cilan had assured her that the Pokémon enjoyed fighting.]

[rainofterror]

Yeah, that's right. Not exactly like him - I'm not a Gym leader - but you don't need all that to have some good battles!

[oasisrose]

Oh. And what's a gym leader?

[She heard more about the connoisseur part of his career than the gym part.]

[Archie has no fucking idea what that's all about and kinda doesn't want to ask. Some weird Unovian thing probably.]

Every region's got a Pokemon League, right? There's eight Gyms, with a Leader in charge. Trainers who wanna challenge the League have to beat all the Gyms, and then they go battle that region's Elite Four and Champion. Strongest trainers around!

Not a lotta people make it through all that. Plenty o'kids wanna go professional, but it's hard work!

[oasisrose]

Huh. I'll bet it's hard work! Cilan mentioned a little about the league, but I didn't realize there was so many stages to it.

... wait. You said there's an Elite Four and a Champion? [She covers her mouth, thoughtfully.] What a peculiar parallel...

Yeah? To what?

[oasisrose]

Well, in my world, there's a popular legend...

For thousands of years we've had a class of legendary hero known as the Dragonmaster. To call him a champion would be an understatement -- he's considered the protector of the Goddess herself. There's usually only one at a time, though at one time there were twin sisters who claimed the title together.

However, the Dragonmaster's never the only hero of the age. In fact, the Dragonmaster of the Heresy War was one of a group called the Four Heroes. Since then, it's been a title of honor, one bestowed by the people.

Hm. Yeah, that does kinda sound similar. It's always the Champion that comes out if somethin' terrible happens to their region. We haven't had any wars in a long time, but y'know...there's some powerful Pokemon out there.

And always people around to do somethin' stupid.

[oasisrose]

Yes. Unfortunately, that seems to be true anywhere. [All these people from all these different universes, and yet...]

You know, we actually haven't seen any wars for a very long time, either. But we've had our hands full with other disasters. Even many of the monsters have been growing more violent.

[rainofterror]

Yeah? When that happens with Pokemon, usually it's because someone's screwin' around with their habitat.

What're these monsters like?

[oasisrose]

Well... we have ones that are like plants and animals, but corrupted, in a way. They've never been friendly towards humans, especially wayward travelers, but as of late they've had a way of hunting people off the roads, and attacking villages.

We also have many ghosts, which are still normally found infesting run-down mansions and ruins. The number of hauntingly have been rising, but that might be because more buildings outside the Chosen's lands have been falling into disrepair.

There's also elementals, demons -- the otherworldly monsters. We haven't seen many of those, but the fact that we're seeing them at all...

A-anyway. My point is, there's very few friendly monsters in our world, especially if you're not counting normal animals or the immortal dragons.

Yeah, ghosts can be assholes.

[He doesn't seem like he thinks any of this is outlandish]

You've got immortal dragons? Ours live a long time, but the only immortal ones are in legends. [And thus probably hiding in a cave somewhere tbh] What're they doin' about all this, if they're so friendly?

[oasisrose]

Well... that's a good question, actually.

Normally, they only act the Dragonmaster gives them directions. It has something to do with taking our destiny into our own hands, you know? But I guess they're actually like your monsters, that way.

But there isn't a Dragonmaster right now, so... I don't know. Maybe they're waiting for one to show up?

[rainofterror]

Yeah, that actually sounds a lot like Pokemon. Maybe more like one of the legends - there used to be some powerful things runnin' around, in ancient times. They say you can still summon 'em, if you know how...

[He seems unusually contemplative about that, for a second.]
