WEEK 2 With the deaths of Sayaka Maizono and Mallick Scott the first week draws to a close. While you all have varying opinions on what happened and who was to blame, one thing's for sure: the Adjudicator isn't messing around. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... However, those weird dreams aren't the only new thing around here; those massive double doors on the southern wall of the foyer have opened up, leading down another hallway and ending in what looks like another corridor to the west. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; consider it your reward for a job well done. Or perhaps for just playing the game. COMPETITORS REMAINING: 28

[Cilan will have likely seen her at some point in the kitchen, but when he notices her again later...]

... Katniss? Are you alright?

[You certainly seem more fidgety than earlier today, should we be concerned?]

[flagitate]

[ She picks idly at a stray thread off her onesie; the look in her eyes is a far away one. ]

It's been a long day.

[cilantro]

[It certainly has been, but still...]

Is there anything we can do to help? [Do you wanna talk about it, or...]

[flagitate]

[ Katniss hesitates, and she chews at her bottom lip. ]

... I don't know. i don't think so. [ But... ] ... Maybe some pancakes, though.

[cilantro]

[At that, Cilan manages a smile.]

Mm, that can easily be arranged. Do you have any particular preferences when it comes to pancake toppings?

[flagitate]

I don't really know what all goes good with pancakes, but-- Can you do caramel on them?

[cilantro]

Oh, of course you can! In fact, there's quite a few recipes for caramel pancakes that one could choose from in order to create the most delicious pancakes there are to taste!

[If Cilan could sparkle at the mere thought of this, he would right now.]

I'm just going to drop off some stuff from the vending machine at my room first, and then we can head straight away to the kitchen to make pancakes, if you'd like!

[flagitate]

[ ... Wow. He really does know his stuff. Katniss is impressed all over again. ]

Yeah. That works for me. You're really excited about cooking.

[cilantro]

Of course! Cooking is a strong passion of mine, and not just due to working in a restaurant. After all, depending on what you're making, it can provide a flavor of calm and relaxation, or it can be an experience with a thrilling taste of excitement when you have the chance to experiment and prepare something new!

[Cilan could talk all day about how great cooking is if he really wanted to, that's for sure.]

[flagitate]

[ Thank god Cilan is here so they can eat well. ]

So what kind of stuff do you make at your restaurant?

[cilantro]

Oh, there's quite a wide variety of flavor in regards to our restaurant's menu: there's soups, salads, sandwiches, appetizers... though, considering our usual clientele, our desserts seem to be the most popular? Or at least my brother Chili seems to think so...

[flagitate]

[ ... That's a lot. Way more than she's used to, but that's not a surprise. ]

Your usual clientele? What do you mean?

[cilantro]

Well, our most frequent customers are a group of young ladies that live in Striaton City: from what they've told me, they like the idea of... what was it again? Candy? Or at least I recall it was something sweet to go along with spectating gym battles, should there happen to be one occurring when they're visiting our establishment.

[... There is a strong possibility that Cilan was a tad oblivious and that what they might have been referring to was "eye-candy" and that they like to visit because of him and his brothers, or maybe they just really like cake and gym battles? It's a mystery.]

[flagitate]

[ ... oh my god. Does Cilan come from a world where people fight to the death, too? With spectators?

... She's just quietly horrified here, no big deal, enough that she can't even find anything to say. ]

[cilantro]

... Hm? Is something wrong? You've suddenly become very quiet.

[Did we say something strange? Is it about the girls and eye-candy thing because that was really strange for us to hear ourselves.]

[flagitate]

You said... gym battles. What kind of--?

[ please don't say "fight to the death," for the love of god. ]

[cilantro]

... I didn't mention what those were before, did I? My apologies. [He keeps forgetting that not everyone is from Pokemon world here... ahem--] Okay, it's explanation time~! You see, in Unova we have places called gyms where Pokemon and their trainers can compete to earn a gym badge, which can be used as an entry fee for the Pokemon League tournament if you collect the required amount of badges needed.

My restaurant also doubles as a Pokemon gym, and my brothers and I serve as it's Gym Leaders. As such, we will occasionally have challengers who visit us sometimes that wish to spar with us and our own Pokemon. If they are able to defeat me or one of my brothers, we will reward them with the gym badge as proof of their victory. After all, my job is to test the compatibility between people and Pokemon, to see whether or not a trainer has been treating them properly and if they're able to work together as a team, and thus, they need to win the match in order to prove themselves as such against Gym Leaders like ourselves.

[Is... any of that making sense to you, Katniss, or does he need to explain further.]

[flagitate]

[ ... Oh. Oh, okay, good. The important thing here is that it's not like the Hunger Games. Except... ]

... So what happens to the Pokemon? [ do they die when they're defeated??? I'm sorry this is her only response, she's just trying to process this whole weird thing. ]

[cilantro]

Well, a gym battle can often help improve upon the taste of one's skills, whether it be the trainer learning how to read an opponent's moves and come up with better strategies, or a Pokemon gaining better coordination and faster reaction timing to something occurring.

Even if one loses the battle, it's not something to despair about, I think. What should matter is whether or not you and your Pokemon had fun, and if bond with them has ripened and produced a much stronger flavor due to your teamwork with one another. Plus, my brothers and I will always welcome rematches, so a trainer and their Pokemon are free to come back anytime they wish until they have gotten their gym badge.

[So no, no Pokemon death. It's just friendly sparring, or at least that's how it's supposed to be treated as. Team Rocket sucks and they need to jump off a bridge.]

[flagitate]

[ Well. That makes a lot more sense. Katniss is visibly relieved. ]

You must really like that stuff. It sounds pretty cool.

[cilantro]

Indeed! I'm quite proud to be a Gym Leader, really: not only are we able to help further the development of the bonds between trainers and their Pokemon, but Gym Leaders are also considered to be the representatives of the strongest trainers of our city. It's quite an honor to be considered as such alongside my brothers, after the many years the three of us spent training ourselves in order to earn that title...

[Oh hey, we're here at the dorms. Before we can go back to the kitchen and make caramel pancakes, Cilan just needs to drop off some more vending machine junk to go along with what he's already accumulated thus far, which if Katniss wants to glance in, appears to be a lot of random objects: two different pairs of shoes, a tumbleweed, some stuff sitting right by the door like weird jerky, a pin with some kind of bird on it, a pair of hair scissors, etc.]

[flagitate]

[ That definitely sounds a lot more appealing than the Hunger Games. She kind of feels a little jealous, because something like that... it seems like a crazy dream.

She does glance in, mostly because she's just curious, and her gaze falls on that pin. She'd been wearing it in her dream, so... maybe... ]

... Hey. Where'd you get that pin?

[cilantro]

Oh, this? It came out of the vending machine the other day when I decided to first try it.

[And then Cilan turns and frowns a little at the pin.]

Although, I must admit that I'm not familiar with any Flying-type Pokemon that look like this, so I assumed that it must be based on a bird from someone else's region...

[I mean it kind of reminded him of Fearow as far as the beak goes, but... yeah, otherwise he didn't recognize the bird very well.]

[flagitate]

[ ... Okay, she's walking right in and gently touching the little pin. It looks so delicate, but... yeah, it's definitely hers. It just feels... familiar. ]

I think it's mine.

[cilantro]

Really? [Well in that case--] Then by all means, please go ahead and take it: after all, it would be better suited in the hands of it's owner, right?
