trustfelled | Week 4.

WEEK 4
Three more Competitors died this past week. Chitoge Kirisaki tried to take matters into her own hands only to be punished as a result while William Flemming and Archie both tried to take the Adjudicator up on his word and escape. Three more of you are gone, but there's no going back now.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

Once again, another set of doors has opened up - this time at the end of the western corridor, leading up and toward the north. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; consider it a reward for surviving another week.

Polyur-- why can't they have normal names, that sounds like something Owain would come up with.

[He laughs and stands, finally giving up on his search.] It's 'cause they're all made of something called polymer. It's chemistry, they're named after what they're made of, so they get kind of long and complicated.

...Ah. Good thing I'm not into chemistry, I'd never be able to remember that stuff.

[ He pauses. ]

What were you planning on doing with the polyfoam?

[ ...apparently this is what we're calling it now. ]

[Okay, bro, we'll call it polyfoam.]

Make a surfboard. I'd need some resin and fiberglass cloth too, but just getting the basic design of it down'd be a good start.

[He walks over and takes a seat.]

But if I can't find it, I can't find it. Maybe I could ask Juri.

I asked him for copies of the profiles for the memorial and he said yes, it's worth a try.

That's where those came from! Pretty cool of you to do that, you know. But uh, sure, yeah. I'll go ask him later, or something.

What do you think of him, by the way? Aside from the fact that he's running this game. He's surprisingly affable, in my opinion.

[...] I don't know what to make of him, you know? I asked him a...kind of weird question, and he gave me some harsh but...actually kind of good advice? Like, good, for me. It was weird.

...What did he say?

[Brady's quiet, uncharacteristically so. He looks at the flowers Inigo's been drawing.]

To, uh. ...To remember when you say... If someone asks what you'd do to keep someone safe...and you say anything. To be careful with that. 'Cause some people will be lenient...and others won't. He told me to keep that in mind.

[ He's mostly drawing lilies. There's a shoddily drawn crow in the corner. ]

...That's pretty good advice, yeah.

[He's grateful that Inigo's not pushing that line of thought.]

He tells me none of my questions are dumb, even if they really feel like it, after the fact. When it's not...in a trial, or talking about an incentive, or... Or like what happened with Chitoge, or AZ. He seems like a weird but normal dude.

Yeah. He's been surprisingly easy to talk to, and we played chess together once.

Who won?

I did. He wasn't very good at it.

[ ... ]

Do you think he was telling us the truth the other day? About our influence on the world disappearing.

...I don't know. It's kind of a complicated thing for me to wrap my head around, to begin with. Things are kind of, uh. Weird back home.

It's like that for me, too. The more I think about it, the more confused I get.

Like... Altered timeline weird? [this question could be a hit or a miss]

...Yes. I haven't even been born yet in the current timeline.

Whoa. Yikes, man. I'm just dealing with memories of another life I apparently had, that's rough.

Yeah, it's... really complicated. Time travel was involved, my friends and I went to the past to change history.

Inigo, what the heck. Did- did it work- but wait, if it did, wouldn't you not be here right now? If you changed history, then the you- your memories, they'd be all weird, right?

[ ...okay that just gets him to stare blankly at Brady for a moment, before he shakes it off. ]

Multiple timelines exist. Rather than jumping back in the timeline I was born in, I believe I was sent to a different one. So my memory wouldn't be affected and I can't cause a paradox that poofs me out of existence.

Oh. Oh.

[He's quiet for a moment.]

That's...not how it happened for me, so. Wow. Multiple timelines. Are you... Are you okay with that?

[They'd obviously had something bad they wanted to change, but now...]

[ He goes quiet for a moment and stares at the lilies in the sketchpad. ]

...I'm not sure. It means my original timeline is still ruined and will stay that way, no matter what I do.
