Week 5.

WEEK 5 With the deaths of AZ, Brady Russell, McKenzie Mitchell, and Walter White, it's probably starting to feel less crowded around here, isn't it? But there isn't going to be a break from your situation - a new day in here should remind you of that. Two people were murdered in an attempt to escape and one had Juri's help to take his own life. How many more will die this week? Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Checking the rules when you wake up will reveal that there's been a rule change; another reminder of things you've lost, and things you may have yet to lose. Of course, with the start of a new week, another set of doors has opened up - once again, they can be found in the western corridor, jutting downwards toward the south. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; after the weekend's trial, you probably deserve it. COMPETITORS REMAINING: 19

Mm... no, you don't seem like the sort to appreciate such gifts.

Among the general populace, no. Firearms are the weapon of choice when it comes to killing, and knives and bare hands are still preferred for self-defense.

Among magic practioners, however, traditional weaponry is still considered ideal.

Huh, that's interesting. Amestris has mostly moved to firearms, though obviously alchemists who can use their alchemy for combat don't need to rely on that. We were issued guns anyway, but not all of us carried them.

[He sure as hell didn't. Which was very stupid looking back on it, but he doubts he could have shot a person even if he had to.]

So you use magic?

I do, along with my entire family, and all the students at my school, and all of their families. We're quite the little community.

[ Of murderers, mostly. ]

Training with a traditional weapon is practically required, however. I was introduced to most of them so that I could make an educated choice, but I ended up selecting the sword in the end,

I only know one guy who uses swords, but he's supposedly pretty formidable.

[this is really ironic he just doesn't know it (yet)]

I've never used a traditional sword before, but I could probably manage it with enough practice. I can use something similar with my alchemy.

[ NOT EVEN REMOTELY though damn, Mahiru would be incredibly interested in something like that. ]

I'm happy to teach you, if you like. Being well-armed in a place like this is a wise decision.

Heh, yeah. I'd like that. Like I said, the swords I've gotten are useless, so it's not like there's any danger.

And the dojo is quite suitable for sword practice... Would Monday morning, half an hour after the morning chime, work for you? I'd had to interrupt your playdate with Terumi.

[glaciates]

I don't really have a time and place with Terumi. It just sorta happens.

[conveniently before the trial!! maybe they should actually schedule this for sunday or something]

Monday morning works though. I'm looking forward to it.

[ She pauses, then: ]

Your hair... it doesn't seem to be giving you as much trouble as it used to.

[glaciates]

Oh, uh...

[He reaches up to mess with the stray strand of hair that's always in his face.]

I've gotten used to it. Or... I guess I remember being used to it. It's probably been this long for awhile now.

[middaymoon]

Wonderful. We won't have to get you used to compensating for it, then.

[ Mahiru would be the one to teach him, though, given that she's got hair down past her waist. ]

[glaciates]

[Yes, Mahiru has absolutely got this...]

Yeah. I didn't want to cut it off before I remembered, but I guess that's why. I was used to it, I just didn't remember being used to it.

I suppose it's fortunate it worked out that way.

[ She pauses for a moment... ]

Though it's odd that a sort of muscle memory would remain, despite the loss of our conscious memories.

[glaciates]

I've actually been pretty curious about that too. When I'm sparring with Terumi I tend to go in with my left hand, though I'm right-handed. It's because of this.

[He holds his left hand out, palm up so she can see the tattoo there. It's been weeks and yet it's still in great condition! How the hell does that happen, idk anime germany.]

So I'm used to fighting with this array, but I still don't remember getting it done.

[ Mahiru leans in to study the array. It looks like a magic seal to her, but since there's no magic in Isaac's world... ]

Is that something for your alchemy?

[glaciates]

Yeah. I can't use alchemy without an array, and this is one I designed specifically for fighting. It freezes or boils water. Or, well, it would, if it worked here.

I see...

[ That's genuinely fascinating - though the fact that it's specifically for fighting brings a rather gruesome thought to mind. ]

The human body is mostly water. Could you use it to freeze or boil a person?

[glaciates]

Yeah.

[He figured she'd get it and there's not really any way around it, so...]

Originally it wasn't intended to be used that way. My array's pretty flexible and it can be used differently. My original aim was just to freeze sources of water. I spent most of my time in Ishval relying on extra canteens and uh... there was one time I used my own blood? But I didn't kill anyone like that unless I absolutely had to.

[Now though... Well, it's better to not mention it.]

[ Mahiru nods along with his explanation, looking... well, completely fascinated. Maybe a little excited, when he mentions using his blood as a weapon. ]

I can see why you'd find it distasteful.

[ Even though she apparently doesn't. ]

Still, that's a powerful tool to have at your disposal. I'll be sure to keep my distance if we ever end up on opposite sides.

[It's okay, Mahiru, he doesn't feel nearly as bad about it as he did when he first had the realization that he could do this!!]

I hope we don't. It doesn't work here, but hopefully I'll be able to use my alchemy again once we leave this place.
